American Standard 2857111.02 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the American Standard Madera 2857111 toilet come with a tank, or does it need a flushometer supply?
There's no tank. The Madera 2857111 is a floor mounted flushometer bowl paired with a manual piston flush valve, so it needs a pressurized supply line sized for flushometer service, not a residential tank fill. The valve is handle operated with a non-hold-open design that shuts off automatically.
2) Is the Madera 2857111 toilet ADA chair height?
The bowl sits at a 16-1/2 inch rim height, which American Standard calls out for accessible application. Add a seat and you land in the range accessible layouts are typically built around. Note the seat is not included, so seat thickness affects your final height.
3) Is the water inlet on the Madera 2857111 a top spud or back spud?
Top spud. The flush valve connects at the top of the bowl, so the rough-in has to bring the supply down the wall to a top spud connection. A back spud bowl will not work with that piping and the reverse is also true.
4) How much water does the Madera 2857111 use per flush, and will it still clear waste?
It flushes at 1.1 gpf (4.2 Lpf) and carries a maximum 1,000 gram MaP score, which is the top of the MaP scale. That combination is why it gets specified in high traffic restrooms where water use is capped but clogs are not an option.
5) Is this Madera toilet heavy duty enough for a school or stadium restroom?
The bowl is rated for a 2,500 lb (1,134 kg) static weight load, which is the load rating American Standard publishes for commercial Madera bowls used in schools, transit, and other high abuse settings. Vitreous china with conventional glaze and a condensation channel to cut sweating on the bowl exterior.
6) What keeps the piston flush valve on this Madera system from running on?
The valve uses American Standard's DynaClean design, with an integral wiper spring that cleans the refill orifice on every flush. A plugged refill orifice is the usual cause of a flushometer running on, so that self cleaning action targets the most common service call on piston valves. The handle is also non-hold-open, so it shuts off on its own if someone leans on it.
7) What color and part number do I order for the Madera chair height flushometer toilet system?
It is sold in white, ordered as American Standard part number 2857111.02.
8) Will this Madera bowl work with an existing elongated seat from another toilet?
The bowl is elongated, so an elongated seat is what fits. A round front seat will leave the bowl overhanging at the front and will not seat properly on the mounting holes.
