American Standard 1660506.002 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the American Standard Minimalist hand shower come with a hose and wall supply elbow?
No. Model 1660506 is the hand shower wand only. You'll need to order a shower hose and a wall connection (supply elbow or slide bar mount) separately to complete the install.
2) What is the flow rate on the American Standard Minimalist hand shower?
2.5 gpm (9.5 L/min) maximum. That is the standard US federal maximum, so it is the full-flow option rather than a low-flow head. If your jurisdiction caps showers at 1.8 or 2.0 gpm (California, Colorado, New York among others), this one won't meet that requirement and you'll want a lower-rated wand.
3) Does this American Standard hand shower have a built-in check valve, or do I need to add one?
The check valve is built into the wand. It stops cross flow between the hot and cold supplies, which is what a lot of inspectors look for on a handheld installation. No separate backflow device is needed at the wand itself.
4) How many spray settings does the Minimalist hand shower have?
One. It's a single function wand, so there is no diverter collar or spray selector to fail. For multi-family or hotel work where you're trying to cut service calls, that's usually the point of specifying it.
5) What finish does American Standard 1660506 come in?
Chrome, ordered as 1660506.002. That is the only finish this model is built in, so if you're matching brushed nickel or matte black trim elsewhere in the bath you'll need a different American Standard wand.
6) Can I use this wand with a hose and slide bar I already have?
Hand showers and hoses in North America use a standard 1/2 inch NPSM connection at both the wand and the supply elbow, so a standard shower hose threads onto the Minimalist wand. Confirm your existing hose is 1/2 inch NPSM and not a metric G1/2 import before you order.
7) Will hard water clog this hand shower's nozzles?
The spray face uses easy clean nozzles, so lime and calcium buildup wipes off with a thumb rather than needing a descaling soak or a nozzle pick. In hard water buildings that is the difference between a wand lasting and a wand getting replaced.
8) Is the handle on this hand shower plastic or metal?
Brass. The handle body is brass rather than molded plastic, which is what holds up in rental and commercial showers where the wand gets dropped against the tub deck.
