American Standard 6540278.002 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the American Standard Monterrey 6540278 gooseneck faucet fit my 8-inch widespread three-hole sink?
Yes. The Monterrey 6540278 is a widespread faucet with flexible underbody connections that adjust from 6 inches to 12 inches center to center, so a standard 8-inch widespread deck is right in the middle of its range. That same flexibility lets it drop onto 6-inch or 12-inch hole spacing without changing parts.
2) How do the supply lines connect on the Monterrey 6540278 faucet?
Each cast brass valve body has a 1/2 inch (13 mm) male threaded inlet shank with a brass coupling nut, and the two bodies are joined by flexible connections to the spout. You supply the risers or connectors from the stops to those 1/2 inch shanks.
3) Does this gooseneck spout swivel, or is it fixed?
Either one. The Monterrey gooseneck is field-convertible between rigid and swivel, so the same faucet works where you want the spout to stay put over a single basin and where you need it to swing, for example across a two-compartment sink. The spout reach is 8 inches (203 mm).
4) Is the Monterrey wrist blade faucet a good choice for a healthcare or school handwashing sink?
That is the application it is built around. The wrist blade handles are vandal resistant and carry red and blue temperature indicators, so they can be operated with a forearm or elbow when hands are contaminated. The tall gooseneck with 8 inch reach clears deep basins and buckets, and the washerless ceramic disc valves hold up under constant public traffic.
5) What is the flow rate on the American Standard 6540278?
1.5 gpm (5.7 Lpm) through a pressure-compensating aerator, which holds that rate steady as building water pressure fluctuates. That matters on multi-story or high-demand buildings where a plain aerator would run heavy on the lower floors.
6) Will these ceramic disc cartridges stop the constant dripping we get from washer faucets?
The Monterrey uses washerless ceramic disc valves rather than rubber washers and seats, which is what eliminates the drip-and-rebuild cycle on high-use restroom faucets. For a property manager replacing compression faucets across a portfolio, that is the main maintenance difference.
7) Does the Monterrey 6540278 come with a drain or pop-up assembly?
No drain is part of this faucet. What you get is the gooseneck spout, the two cast brass valve bodies with wrist blade handles, the flexible underbody, and the 1.5 gpm aerator. Order the grid strainer or pop-up separately, along with your supply risers to the 1/2 inch inlet shanks.
8) What finish does the Monterrey 6540278 gooseneck faucet come in?
Chrome, ordered as part number 6540278.002. That is the only finish this model is built in, which makes it straightforward when you are standardizing restroom fixtures across a building.
