American Standard T064430.002 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the American Standard Serin diverter trim kit include the valve body?
No. The Serin single-handle diverter trim kit is trim only, sold less valve. You get the handle, escutcheon and finished parts that show on the wall. The rough diverter valve has to be ordered separately, and it needs to be an American Standard R420 or R430 rough diverter valve.
2) Which rough-in valve do I need behind the Serin T064430 diverter trim?
It mounts to an American Standard R420 or R430 rough diverter valve. If the wall already has one of those roughed in, the Serin trim drops onto it. If the existing rough is a different body, this trim is the wrong finish kit for it.
3) Is the Serin diverter trim ADA compliant for a commercial or multi-family bath?
Yes, the Serin diverter trim is ADA compliant, and it uses a lever handle, which is the operating style ADA work generally calls for because it can be worked without tight grasping or twisting of the wrist.
4) Can the Serin diverter handle switch between three shower outlets, or only two?
It controls water flow between 2 or 3 outlets, so it works for a showerhead plus a hand shower, or a three-way setup feeding a head and two body spray banks. Which of those you actually get is set by the R420 or R430 rough valve behind the wall, not by the trim.
5) What finishes does the Serin T064430 diverter trim come in, and what are the part numbers?
Two finishes: polished chrome as T064430.002 and brushed nickel as T064430.295. The .002 and .295 suffixes are the finish codes, so matching the rest of the Serin trim in the room is a matter of matching that suffix across the shower trim, spout and lavatory faucet.
6) Can I use this Serin trim as a shower valve, or do I still need a separate pressure balance valve?
It's a diverter only. The Serin T064430 redirects water between outlets; it does not control temperature or mixing. A shower run through it still needs its own mixing or pressure balance valve and trim upstream, with the diverter trim installed as a second plate on the wall.
7) Is the Serin diverter handle metal or plastic?
Metal. The Serin diverter trim uses a metal lever handle, which is what you want on rental, hotel and other high-turnover baths where a plastic handle tends to be the part that breaks first.
