American Standard 9035888.002 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does the American Standard Spectra Versa 5-inch showerhead arm extension actually do?
It raises a rain showerhead 5 inches higher than it would otherwise sit, so the spray falls from a greater height for a drenching feel. The common reason people add one is height: if the tallest person in the household is ducking under the head, the extension buys back the clearance.
2) Does the Spectra Versa arm extension mount on a shower slide bar or to the wall supply?
It installs on the slide bar. This is an extension piece for the Spectra Versa shower system, not a wall-mounted shower arm that threads into the supply elbow. If you need a plain wall arm off a drop ell, this is the wrong part.
3) What finishes does the 9035888 showerhead arm extension come in, and will it match my existing Spectra Versa trim?
Three finishes, matched to the Spectra Versa system: chrome (9035888.002), legacy bronze (9035888.278), and brushed nickel (9035888.295). Order the same finish code family as the shower system already on the wall and the extension will match.
4) Will this extension work with a handshower, or only the rain head?
It is specified for raising the rain showerhead on the Spectra Versa system. That is the application American Standard states for it.
5) For a multi-family or hotel bath retrofit where guests complain the shower is too low, is this a practical fix?
Yes, where the bath already has a Spectra Versa shower system with a slide bar. The extension adds 5 inches of head height and goes on the bar, so there is no wall opening, no re-piping, and no tile work. Units without that system will not take it.
6) Which part number do I order for the brushed nickel Spectra Versa arm extension?
Brushed nickel is 9035888.295. Chrome is 9035888.002 and legacy bronze is 9035888.278. The finish suffix after the dot is the only thing that changes between them.
