American Standard M964855-2950A – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does the American Standard M964855 spout set screw kit do?
It is the small fastener hardware that secures a faucet spout in place. American Standard catalogues it as a faucet fastener kit, so it is the replacement screw set rather than the spout or the cartridge itself. If the spout on the fixture is loose or spinning and the set screw is stripped or missing, this is the part that puts it back together.
2) I'm a property manager with a tub or lav spout that keeps coming loose - is a set screw kit the right fix?
Usually yes, if the spout still seats correctly and only the fastener has failed. A stripped, corroded or missing set screw lets the spout rotate or pull away even though the valve body is fine, and the American Standard M964855 kit replaces just that hardware. If the spout itself is cracked, or water is leaking from behind the escutcheon, the problem is the spout or the valve seals, not the screw.
