American Standard M964057-0020A – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What part is American Standard M964057 and what does it actually cover?
M964057 is the valve escutcheon for American Standard San Sebastian faucets. It is the decorative trim plate that covers the valve hole in the deck or wall, hiding the rough opening and the valve body behind the handle. It is a trim piece only, not a valve, cartridge, or handle.
2) Which finishes does the San Sebastian valve escutcheon come in, and how do I order the one that matches my faucet?
Three finishes: chrome (M964057-0020A), estate bronze (M964057-1810A), and brushed nickel (M964057-2950A). The suffix on the part number is the finish code, so order by the full number to match the rest of the San Sebastian trim on the fixture. For a multi-unit property, matching the existing suffix across bathrooms keeps replacements consistent.
3) Will this escutcheon fit a faucet that isn't a San Sebastian?
No. This escutcheon is made for the American Standard San Sebastian faucet and its valve trim, so it isn't a universal cover plate. On another series the hole pattern and the way the plate seats against the valve won't line up. Look up the escutcheon listed for your own faucet series instead of trying to adapt this one.
4) I'm replacing a cracked or pitted trim plate on a San Sebastian faucet. Do I need to buy any other parts with it?
If the only damage is to the visible trim plate, the escutcheon on its own restores the finish. It ships as the escutcheon, so handles, valve cartridges, mounting shanks, and any gasket or O-ring that was original to the valve are separate parts. Pull the handle and inspect the valve stem before ordering, so you're not going back in a second time for a cartridge.
5) Can a maintenance tech swap the San Sebastian valve escutcheon without shutting off the water?
Usually yes. The escutcheon is the outer trim plate, so getting to it means removing the handle and any decorative sleeve rather than opening the valve body. As long as the cartridge stays undisturbed the supply stays sealed. If you find you have to pull the cartridge to free the plate, shut the stops off first.
