TOTO TBW03003U4#CP – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the TOTO L Series handshower come with a hose and wall mount, or do I have to order those separately?
Hose and mount are not included. The L Series handshower is the wand only, so a shower hose and either a wall bracket or slide bar have to go on the order alongside it to make a working assembly. Worth catching before a bathroom rough-in punch list, because a handshower on its own installs nothing.
2) What size is the hose connection on the TOTO L Series handshower?
G 1/2 threads, which is the standard half-inch shower hose connection, so any conventional G 1/2 shower hose mates to it. That is the connection at the wand end; the other end of the hose has to suit whatever outlet or slide bar is on the wall.
3) Is the TOTO L Series handshower legal for a California project?
It meets the California requirements: CEC compliant and CALGreen listed, and WaterSense certified at a 1.75 GPM maximum flow. Order the 1.75 GPM option specifically, since the same L Series wand is also sold in a 2 GPM version that will not satisfy the California flow limit.
4) What is the difference between the 1.75 GPM and 2 GPM versions of the TOTO L Series handshower?
Flow rate is the only difference in the water they deliver: 1.75 GPM or 2.0 GPM, same wand, same 4 inch face. The 1.75 GPM units are the WaterSense certified, CEC and CALGreen compliant ones. If the job is in a jurisdiction that caps showerhead flow, take 1.75. If it is not, the 2 GPM gives a heavier spray. Model TBW03003U4#CP is the Classic 1.75 GPM five spray, TBW03003U2#CP the Classic 2 GPM five spray.
5) Is the TOTO L Series handshower ADA compliant?
No. The L Series handshower is not ADA compliant, so it should not be specified for an accessible shower where the fixture has to meet ADA. For those openings, look at a handshower assembly built for accessible use with a compliant slide bar and control.
6) Should I get the single spray or the five spray TOTO L Series handshower for rental units?
Both exist in the L Series. The five spray wand uses a sliding lever to move between jet, jet and rinse, rinse, rinse and massage, and massage. The single spray version has one fixed pattern and no lever, which is one less moving part to fail or get abused in a high-turnover unit. For a hotel or apartment fleet where you are replacing wands on the same fitting, the single spray is the simpler standard; for owner-occupied or spec bathrooms, the five spray is the one people expect. Both connect the same way, so you can mix them across a building on the same hoses.
7) How big is the TOTO L Series handshower wand, and will it fit an existing slide bar cradle?
The wand measures 4.1875 x 4.0625 x 8.6875 inches with a 4 inch face diameter, and weighs 1.1 pounds. Cradle fit comes down to the handle, not the head, so measure the handle diameter on the bracket you already have. The light weight helps on older slip-fit cradles that lose grip with a heavy metal wand.
8) Will the TOTO handshower clog up in hard water?
The spray face uses rubber nozzles rather than fixed metal jets, so scale can be rubbed off the nozzles by hand instead of requiring a soak or a descaler. That is the practical maintenance answer for hard-water buildings where fixed heads get replaced on a cycle.
