The sensor is strategically positioned underneath the spout head to accurately sense the hands for touchless use. The 1.0 GPM 10 second on-demand faucet uses only 0.18 gallons per cycle and is CEC and CALGreen compliant. The on-demand system means that water flows only when needed and cannot be accidentally left running. When hands are present, the water will flow, and when hands are removed, the water will stop. 1) Does the TOTO Standard R touchless faucet spout come with the controller, or do I have to buy that separately?
Spout body only. The Standard R touchless spout has to be paired with a compatible TOTO ECOPOWER self-generating (hydro-powered) controller or a 120V AC controller, and neither is included. You also supply the water supply line for the G 1/2 inch connection, and a mixing valve if your water is not already tempered. No valve and no drain ship with it, so budget those lines on the order.
2) Will the TOTO Standard R sensor spout fit a single-hole lavatory deck?
It's a deck-mount, single-hole faucet, so one hole in the deck or lav is all it needs. Maximum deck thickness is 2 inches, which covers most vanity tops and stone slabs, but a thicker built-up deck won't take the shank.
3) What flow rates and run times can I get on the TOTO Standard R touchless spout?
Three flow rates and three timing behaviors are offered. The 0.35 GPM version runs 20 second on-demand (TLE28001U2). At 0.5 GPM you can take either 10 second on-demand (TLE28002U1) or 20 second continuous (TLE28002U3). The 1.0 GPM version is 10 second on-demand (TLE28003U1). On-demand means water runs only while hands are under the sensor and stops when they leave, so it can't be left running. Continuous runs a fixed timed cycle once triggered.
4) Is the TOTO Standard R touchless faucet ADA compliant for a commercial restroom?
Yes, it is ADA compliant, which is the usual requirement for public and commercial lavatories since the sensor operation needs no grasping, pinching or twisting. It's also CEC and CALGreen compliant, so it clears California water-efficiency requirements on new construction and renovation work.
5) Do I need to run power to the sink for this TOTO touchless faucet?
Not necessarily. The spout works with either a TOTO ECOPOWER controller, which generates its own power from water flow and needs no electrical connection at the sink, or a 120V AC controller if you have or plan power there. Retrofits into existing casework usually go ECOPOWER to avoid pulling a circuit into the vanity.
6) How far does the TOTO Standard R spout reach over the bowl, and how tall is it?
Reach is 4.63 inches from the mounting hole and spout height is 3.63 inches. That's a low-profile spout, so check it against the rim height and bowl position of your lavatory, particularly on vessel or raised bowls where a 3.63 inch spout will sit too low.
7) Can I get the TOTO Standard R sensor faucet to match brushed nickel trim in the rest of the restroom?
Three finishes are offered across the range: polished chrome, brushed nickel and polished nickel. Every flow option is available in all three, so a facility standardizing on brushed nickel can spec the 0.35, 0.5 or 1.0 GPM version without changing finish. The spout body is brass.
8) Do I need a mixing valve with the TOTO Standard R sensor spout?
Only if the water arriving at the faucet is not already tempered. The spout is a single-hole unit with a G 1/2 inch connection and no valve included, so if you're feeding it from a central tempered loop you can go straight in. Cold-only or separate hot and cold feeds need a mixing valve, ordered separately.
9) Where is the sensor on the TOTO Standard R faucet, and does it pick up hands reliably?
The sensor sits underneath the spout head at the tip, aimed down at where hands actually go, rather than on the spout body facing forward. That placement gives an immediate trigger and avoids the false starts you get from sensors that see the bowl or a passing user.
