TOTO TBN01001U – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Which TOTO shower trims work with the TBN01001U MiniUnit rough-in box?
The MiniUnit rough-in valve body pairs with eight TOTO thermostatic trim models: TBV01406U, TBV01407U, TBV01408U, TBV02401U, TBV02403U, TBV02404U, TBV02405U and TBV02406U. Pick the trim by style and function; the rough-in stays the same, which is what lets you change the trim later without opening the wall.
2) What size and type are the pipe connections on the TOTO MiniUnit shower rough-in?
All connections are 1/2 inch NPT, so it mates to 1/2 inch threaded supply and outlet piping, or to copper/PEX through 1/2 NPT adapters. There are 4 ports on the body.
3) How much depth adjustment does the TBN01001U allow for different wall thicknesses?
The MiniUnit box carries 1 inch of adjustment tolerance, so it accommodates thinner or thicker finished wall build-ups without repositioning the valve body. That covers the usual variation between a single layer of board and board plus backer plus thick tile or stone.
4) Is the shower trim included with the TBN01001U, or do I have to order it separately?
The TBN01001U is the rough-in box only. You order the thermostatic trim separately from the compatible TOTO list (TBV01406U, TBV01407U, TBV01408U, TBV02401U, TBV02403U, TBV02404U, TBV02405U, TBV02406U). Budget for one rough-in plus one trim per shower.
5) For a multi-unit property standardizing on TOTO showers, can I rough in now and choose trim finishes later?
That is exactly the case this valve is built for. Set the same MiniUnit body in every shower at rough-in, then select from the eight compatible TOTO thermostatic trims at finish stage, and swap trims down the road without removing walls. One rough-in SKU across the building simplifies your parts stock.
6) Can the MiniUnit rough-in box be rotated, or does it have to go in one orientation?
The box uses a 360 degree design, meaning orientation is not fixed, which is there specifically to cut down on rough-in errors when the stud bay or piping approach isn't ideal.
7) What are the dimensions of the TOTO TBN01001U rough-in box for framing the stud bay?
The body measures 4.875 x 5.625 x 5.625 inches, with a compact 4.4 inch diameter valve body. That footprint fits a standard stud bay without blocking modifications in most cases.
8) Is the TOTO MiniUnit valve body brass or plastic?
Solid brass. That matters on a concealed valve you never want to open a wall for again: the brass body resists corrosion from continuous water contact, and it threads to 1/2 NPT piping directly.
9) Does the TOTO MiniUnit rough-in need batteries or power?
No power or batteries. It is a mechanical brass valve body; no battery is included or required.
10) Where can I get the TOTO TBN01001U rough-in dimensions and parts breakdown?
TOTO publishes three documents for this valve that ZenSupply hosts: the installation sheet, the spec sheet, and the manual/parts sheet with the internal component breakdown for later service.
