TOTO THP5500 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the TOTO THP5500 aerator key used for?
The THP5500 is TOTO's aerator key, the small tool that engages the notches on a cache (recessed) faucet aerator so you can back it out of the spout without chewing up the finish. It is a faucet part, not a flow device on its own, so if you are trying to change flow rate you need the aerator cartridge as well as the key to get it out.
2) Do I need a TOTO aerator key, or will a standard wrench work?
A wrench will not work on a recessed aerator. Cache aerators sit flush inside the spout end with no flats to grip, so they are turned by a keyed tool like the THP5500. Standard exposed aerators with external wrench flats do not need a key at all. Check the end of the spout first: if you see a smooth ring with small slots or notches, that is the type this key is for.
3) How many parts come with TOTO THP5500?
Ordering THP5500 gets you the aerator key itself, a single part number with one configuration. There is no aerator insert, washer, or spout kit bundled with it. If the old aerator is damaged or clogged past cleaning, order the replacement aerator separately for your specific faucet model.
4) Is the THP5500 worth stocking for a maintenance shop with TOTO faucets?
For a property with TOTO lavatory faucets, yes. Aerator cleaning is the most common low-flow callback on a faucet, and on TOTO's recessed aerators a tech without the key either cannot get it out or damages the spout trying. One key lives in the truck and services every faucet in the building that uses that aerator style.
