TOTO THU9978 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What exactly comes in the TOTO THU9978 base plate assembly?
The TOTO THU9978 is a set of two lid bumpers, the small pads that sit between the tank lid and the tank rim on a toilet. You get a pair in the kit, which is what a single tank lid needs.
2) My TOTO tank lid rattles and shifts. Is THU9978 the part that fixes it?
That rattle is usually the lid sitting on worn or missing bumpers. THU9978 is the bumper set for a TOTO tank lid, supplied two to a kit, and replacing both at once keeps the lid sitting level rather than rocking on one new pad and one flattened one.
3) Is the TOTO THU9978 a tank lid, or just the bumpers for one?
Just the bumpers. THU9978 is a pair of lid bumpers only, not the porcelain lid itself. If the lid is cracked or chipped you need the replacement lid for your specific TOTO tank model instead.
4) What is the TOTO part number I should order for tank lid bumpers?
Order TOTO THU9978. That is the manufacturer part number for the base plate assembly, and it is the number to quote for the pair of tank lid bumpers.
5) Do I need any tools or extra hardware to install TOTO lid bumpers?
No hardware to buy alongside them. Lid bumpers are pads that seat between the tank lid and the tank rim, so the job is lifting the lid off, removing the old bumpers, and setting the two new ones in place. Nothing else in the tank has to be disturbed.
