TOTO THP4898 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What exactly is the TOTO THP4898 part?
THP4898 is a TOTO diverter cartridge, the replacement valve cartridge that handles the diverter function on the faucet valve rather than the temperature or volume control. It is ordered by that part number, THP4898.
2) Which TOTO valve does the THP4898 diverter cartridge go into?
It is the diverter cartridge for the TOTO TSMVW valve. If the rough-in valve body in the wall is not a TSMVW, this is not the cartridge for it.
3) My TOTO shower keeps sending water to both the head and the tub spout. Will replacing this cartridge fix that?
That symptom points at the diverter, and THP4898 is the diverter cartridge for the TSMVW valve. It is a plumbing repair part for faucet/valve service, so it addresses diverter function only. If the problem is temperature drift or flow volume instead, you need the corresponding mixing or volume cartridge, not this one.
4) Does ordering THP4898 change the look of my trim or finish?
No. The THP4898 is an internal diverter cartridge that sits inside the valve body behind the wall, so it does not affect the visible handle or escutcheon finish. There is one part number to order, THP4898, with no finish variations to pick.
5) For a multi-unit property, can I stock THP4898 as a standard diverter repair part?
Yes, if the units are built on TOTO TSMVW valves. THP4898 is the diverter cartridge for that valve, sold as a single part number, which makes it straightforward to keep on the shelf for repeat diverter service calls across identical openings. Verify the valve body model in one unit before buying in quantity.
