TOTO 9BU097 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does the TOTO 9BU097 gasket actually do inside the toilet tank?
The 9BU097 is the 2 inch seal gasket for a TOTO flush tower, the rubber seal the tower valve sits against at the tank outlet. When it hardens or distorts, water bleeds past it into the bowl and the fill valve keeps cycling. Replacing the gasket is the fix for that phantom-flush running, not replacing the whole tower.
2) My TOTO toilet keeps running between flushes. Do I need a new flush valve or just the 2 inch tower gasket?
Start with the gasket. On a TOTO flush tower the 2 inch seal gasket is the wear item, and a slow leak into the bowl with no visible damage to the tower body is almost always the seal. The 9BU097 replaces just that seal. If the tower body itself is cracked or the float mechanism is broken, the seal won't fix it and the tower assembly has to be changed.
3) Is TOTO 9BU097 a genuine TOTO replacement part or an aftermarket seal?
It's the TOTO factory part, MPN 9BU097, sold as a replacement part rather than a generic universal seal. For a facility standardizing on TOTO fixtures, ordering by the TOTO part number is what keeps the flush volume and seal fit the same across the building instead of introducing an off-spec rubber ring.
4) Do I need any tools or extra parts to change the TOTO flush tower seal?
The seal alone is what ships, so plan on shutting off the supply, flushing the tank dry, and lifting the flush tower out to swap the rubber. No adhesive or sealant goes on it; it seats dry against the tank outlet. If the tank-to-bowl bolts or the tank gasket come out brittle while you're in there, those are separate parts and should be ordered alongside.
