TOTO THP4638 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the TOTO THP4638 O-ring work on a tub spout diverter as well as a shower valve?
The THP4638 O-ring is specified for shower and tub use, so it covers TOTO shower and tub diverter housings. What it will not do is cross over to another brand's valve, since it is sized to the TOTO housing it was made for. Match the TOTO valve or trim model you are servicing before ordering.
2) My TOTO shower diverter is leaking or won't hold pressure to the showerhead. Is an O-ring the right fix?
A diverter that weeps or bypasses water between the spout and the head is usually a failed seal in the housing, and the THP4638 is the O-ring for that housing. If the handle is stiff, grinding, or will not stay in position, the problem is mechanical and a new seal will not correct it. Property managers servicing several TOTO showers often buy these as a routine rebuild item.
3) How do I order the right TOTO diverter O-ring so I don't get the wrong size?
Order by the TOTO part number. THP4638 is a single, specific O-ring with no size or finish choices to pick from, so there is one correct item to request. TOTO's THP numbers are service parts tied to particular valve bodies, so confirm the THP number called out for your valve rather than matching by eye.
