TOTO THP4121 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size is the TOTO THP4121 shower arm O-ring?
The THP4121 is a replacement O-ring with a 19.5 inside diameter and a 2.5 cross-section (thickness), as given in the TOTO spec (ID=19.5, d=2.5). Those two numbers are what decide fit: measure the groove seat on your shower arm, and if the seal you pulled out has roughly a 19.5 bore and a 2.5 thick cord, this is the match.
2) Is TOTO THP4121 the whole shower arm or just the seal?
Just the seal. THP4121 is the O-ring used at the shower arm connection, not the arm casting or the shower head. If you are chasing a drip at the arm joint, this is the part you want; if the arm itself is damaged or the finish is gone, you need the arm assembly instead.
3) Do I need plumber's tape or sealant when installing the THP4121 O-ring?
No. An O-ring of this type seals by compression in its groove, so it replaces tape or dope at that joint rather than supplementing it. Seat the 2.5 thick ring fully in the groove, keep it clean of grit, and hand-tighten the connection so the ring is not pinched or rolled out of the seat.
4) I manage a building with a lot of TOTO showers. Is it worth stocking THP4121 on the truck?
It is the kind of part worth keeping a handful of. The THP4121 is a single-size TOTO service O-ring (19.5 ID, 2.5 thick), so there is no handing, finish, or left/right variation to get wrong, and a weeping shower arm joint is almost always the seal rather than the arm. One part number covers every opening that uses it.
