TOTO THP5642 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the TOTO THP5642 part, and what does it do during a rough-in?
TOTO THP5642 is a square adapter and outer plaster guard. The plaster guard is the temporary cover that protects the valve body and its threads while the wall is being finished (mud, tile, plaster), and the adapter piece ties the valve to the finished trim once the wall is closed up. It is a rough-in protection and trim adapter part, not a finished handle or escutcheon you leave exposed as the final look.
2) Is TOTO THP5642 a complete valve or trim kit, or just a replacement component?
It is a single replacement component, the square outer plaster guard and adapter only. No valve body, cartridge, handle, or finished trim plate comes with it. If a plaster guard was discarded or damaged on a TOTO shower rough-in, this is the piece to order on its own.
3) I need the square version of the TOTO plaster guard, not the round one. Is THP5642 the square one?
Yes, THP5642 is the square escutcheon style adapter and outer plaster guard. Round and square TOTO trim families use different guards and adapters, so order by the shape that matches the trim going on the wall.
4) Does the THP5642 plaster guard come in different finishes?
No. THP5642 ships as one part number with no finish options. That is consistent with what it is: a plaster guard sits behind or under the finished trim, so there is no decorative plated version of it to choose.
5) For a multi-unit bathroom renovation, can I order TOTO THP5642 plaster guards in quantity for several showers?
Yes. THP5642 is a single-part-number item with one configuration, so ordering multiples for a run of identical TOTO square-trim showers gets you the same component every time. That consistency is the point for property managers and hotel or multi-family work: one line item covers every opening instead of matching finishes unit by unit.
