TOTO THU744 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the TOTO THU744 kit, and what does it actually contain?
The THU744 is a flush tower seal gasket set from TOTO, supplied as a 10-piece pack of replacement gaskets. It is a service part, not a complete flush valve or tower assembly, so it covers the seal that sits at the base of the flush tower and nothing else. If the tower body itself is cracked or the canister is damaged, the gasket pack will not fix that.
2) My TOTO toilet keeps running or ghost flushing. Is the THU744 seal the part I need?
A continuously running or self-refilling TOTO tank usually means the flush tower seal is no longer sealing against the valve seat, and THU744 is that seal. It is the wear item in the flush valve, and it is the first thing to change before replacing a whole tower or fill valve. Match the part number to what your tank model calls for, since TOTO uses a different seal number across its flush valve families.
3) Will a universal or aftermarket flapper work instead of the TOTO THU744 gasket?
No. A TOTO flush tower is a canister-style valve, not a flapper valve, so a generic rubber flapper has nothing to hook onto and will not seal. The THU744 gasket is the correct-profile seal for the tower seat. Substituting a big-box flapper on a canister tank is the most common reason a TOTO keeps leaking after a repair.
4) Why does the THU744 TOTO seal come in a 10-pack instead of singles?
The THU744 ships as a 10-piece gasket pack, which is how a maintenance shop wants it. For a property manager or an MRO buyer running a building full of TOTO fixtures, one pack covers ten tanks on a single truck roll instead of ten separate orders. For a single-toilet repair you are buying nine spares, which is worth knowing before you order.
5) Do I need tools or any other parts to replace a TOTO flush tower seal?
Changing the flush tower gasket is a hand operation: shut the supply, flush the tank down, lift or twist the flush tower off its base per the valve design, pull the old seal, and seat the new one. No adhesive, no sealant, no additional hardware ships with or is needed alongside the THU744 gasket. Anything beyond the seal, such as the tower body or tank-to-bowl gasket, is a separate part number.
6) Is the TOTO THU744 sold in more than one version or finish?
There is one configuration of the THU744 gasket pack, ordered under TOTO part number THU744. Nothing about it varies by finish or size, since it is an internal tank component that is never seen once the lid is on.
