TOTO THU487#PN – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the TOTO THU487 trip lever for a right-hand or left-hand tank?
Right hand. The THU487 is TOTO's pull-type trip lever built for a right-hand mount, so it goes on tanks prepped with the lever hole on the right side as you face the toilet. A left-hand tank needs a different TOTO lever, not this one.
2) I manage a building with TOTO toilets and the flush handle broke. Is the THU487 the replacement part I need?
Only if the tank is a right-hand, pull-type opening. The THU487 replaces the trip lever assembly itself, not the flapper, fill valve, or chain. If the flush is weak rather than the handle being broken or loose, the problem is usually downstream of the lever and this part will not fix it. Match the handing and the pull-type style to what came out of the tank before ordering.
3) What does #PN mean on the TOTO THU487 trip lever part number?
On TOTO part numbers the code after the hash is the finish. THU487#PN is the polished nickel version of the right-hand pull-type trip lever. If the rest of your tank trim and the other fixtures in the room are a different finish, order the THU487 in the matching code instead.
4) What is a pull-type trip lever and how is it different from a standard flush handle?
A pull-type lever is operated by pulling the handle outward rather than pushing a paddle down. The THU487 is TOTO's arm-style pull trip lever for toilet tanks, and it is a fixture-specific part, so it only works on the TOTO tanks that were designed around that arm geometry and lever hole. A push-down paddle handle is not a drop-in swap for it.
