1) Is the TOTO THU487 trip lever a left-hand or right-hand part?
The THU487 is a right-hand trip lever, so it mounts through the hole on the right side of the tank front. Stand facing the toilet: if the existing lever comes out of the right side, this is the matching replacement. A tank drilled on the left or on a side face needs a different TOTO lever, since the shaft and mounting nut are handed and won't reverse.
2) What is the difference between a pull-type trip lever and a push-button flush on a TOTO toilet?
Pull type means the handle is a lever you push down (or pull) on the outside of the tank, connected by a shaft and arm to the flush valve chain inside. The THU487 is that style. Push-button and dual-flush TOTO tanks use a top-mount button cartridge instead, not a side lever, and there is no lever hole to fit this part into. The flapper or flush valve chain is a separate item; reuse the existing chain unless it is corroded. Tools are just a hand on the plastic retaining nut inside the tank, which threads reverse on TOTO levers.
5) Can I use the TOTO THU487 handle on a non-TOTO toilet tank?
Plan on it fitting TOTO tanks only. The THU487 is a TOTO service part, and the arm length, shaft geometry and nut thread are cut for TOTO flush valves. A universal chrome lever from a big-box shelf may physically thread into another brand's tank, but for a TOTO repair use the TOTO part so the arm clears the valve and the chain pull stays correct.
