TOTO THU824-A – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What exactly is the TOTO THU824-A part?
THU824-A is a TOTO 3-inch drain valve supplied with a 15-inch chain. It is a replacement plumbing part rather than a complete fixture, so you are buying the valve and its chain only.
2) Will a 3-inch TOTO drain valve fit my toilet, or is it only for 2-inch flush valves?
This one is the 3-inch size. TOTO builds tanks around either a 2-inch or a 3-inch flush valve opening, and the two are not interchangeable, so pull the old valve and measure the opening before ordering. If yours measures around 2 inches, the THU824-A is the wrong part.
3) Is the 15-inch chain long enough, or do I need to shorten it?
The chain comes at 15 inches, which is deliberately long so it can be trimmed to suit the depth of the fixture. Hook it up, check the slack with the lever at rest, and cut back the excess links rather than leaving a loop that can foul the valve.
4) What part number do I order to get the TOTO 3-inch drain valve?
Order TOTO THU824-A. That single manufacturer part number covers the 3-inch drain valve and the 15-inch chain together, so there is no separate chain to add to the order.
