TOTO THP5468#MBL – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What exactly is TOTO THP5468#MBL, and is it a complete valve or just the handle?
THP5468#MBL is a TOTO trim handle only, not a valve. It is the volume control and diverter ADA-style handle, so it mounts to a TOTO volume control/diverter valve you already have or are ordering separately. If you are roughing in a new shower, you still need the valve body; this part is the finished lever you see on the wall.
2) Can I use the THP5468 handle to replace a broken shower handle without opening the wall?
Yes, in the normal case. Replacing a volume control or diverter handle is trim-side work, so the valve stays in the wall and the plumbing is untouched. The catch is that it has to be the TOTO valve this handle was built for. If the existing valve is another brand, or a TOTO valve from a different series, the broach and stem will not match and you will be back to opening the wall. Confirm the valve behind the plate before you order the handle.
3) Is the TOTO THP5468 handle a lever style that works for ADA compliance?
It is TOTO's ADA-style volume control and diverter handle, meaning a lever form that can be operated without tight grasping, pinching, or twisting of the wrist. That lever action is the reason this trim gets specified on accessible showers in hotels, healthcare, and multi-family projects where a round knob handle would not pass review.
4) What finish is the #MBL suffix on TOTO THP5468?
The #MBL suffix is TOTO's matte black finish code. Order it by the full designation THP5468#MBL, since TOTO sells the same handle body under other finish suffixes and the suffix is the only thing that separates them. If you are matching other trim on the same wall, make sure the spout, showerhead, and escutcheon carry the same TOTO finish code rather than another brand's matte black.
