ABUS 12KS/80 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the ABUS 12KS/80 security chain made of, and will it scratch what I lock it to?
The 12KS/80 is built from special hardened steel to resist aggressive attack, and it ships inside a fabric sleeve so the links don't chew up paint work or chrome on whatever the chain wraps. That matters if you're securing a gate, a rolling cart, or equipment with a finished surface you don't want marked.
2) Does the ABUS 12KS chain come with a padlock?
No padlock is included. The 12KS/80 with loop is the chain alone, so you'll need to order a shackle padlock separately and size its shackle clearance to pass through a link. For a chain in this security class, buyers usually pair it with a hardened-steel padlock rather than a general-purpose one.
3) What does the loop version of the ABUS 12KS chain do that a plain chain doesn't?
The loop is a fixed eye on the end, so you can pass the free end through it and cinch the chain around a post, gate frame, or rack and then padlock the free end. That gives you more fixing options than a plain cut length, which needs the padlock to join both ends and always leaves you a fixed circumference.
4) Is the ABUS 12KS chain suitable for commercial property use or is it a residential item?
It's a commercial-duty item. ABUS classes the 12KS as a high-security chain in hardened steel for resisting aggressive attack, which is the profile a property manager or facilities crew wants for gates, compounds, tool cages, and shared storage rather than a light residential chain.
5) Can I get the ABUS 12KS chain in a length other than the pre-cut sizes?
ABUS supplies the 12KS in barrels, so custom lengths are made to order beyond the 2.5 ft, 4 ft, and 5 ft pre-cut pieces. A cut-to-length run won't carry the factory loop end, so if the loop is what you need for your fixing method, work from the pre-cut sizes.
