ABUS 83913 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the ABUS 83913 a padlock, or just a part?
It is a replacement collar only, not a lock. The collar is the connection point on a 3/8 in. sash chain where the padlock shackle passes through. If you need the lock itself, order a padlock separately.
2) Will the ABUS 83913 collar work with non-ABUS chain and padlocks?
It is built as a genuine ABUS part for ABUS sash chain accessories and padlock systems. Fit on another manufacturer's chain or lock is not something the part is specified for, so the safe use is within an ABUS chain and padlock setup using 3/8 in. chain.
3) Can I replace a worn chain collar without buying a whole new chain assembly?
Yes. The ABUS 83913 is sold as a standalone collar so a worn or damaged collar can be swapped out of an existing 3/8 in. sash chain setup, leaving the chain and padlock in place. That is the point of carrying it as a maintenance part on a facility spares list.
4) Is this ABUS collar suitable for commercial and industrial use, or is it a residential part?
It is classed as commercial hardware. Typical placements are warehouse and storage area security, industrial facility access points, government and municipal buildings, and multi-unit residential properties on a chain-and-padlock program.
5) I manage several buildings using ABUS chains on gates. Should I stock 83913 collars as spares?
If your chains are 3/8 in. sash chain, yes. The collar is the wear point that gets cut, deformed, or corroded first in a chain-and-padlock assembly, and stocking a few means a crew can restore an opening the same day instead of pulling the whole chain. Confirm the chain gauge on each site first, since this collar only fits 3/8 in.
