1) What happens to the Yale 4781LN electrified lever lock when power is lost?
It locks. The 4781LN is a fail secure electrified cylindrical lever with no override, so removing power leaves the outside lever locked. Inside lever always retracts the latch for free egress. Fail secure is the usual choice for access-controlled entries where you want the opening to stay secured during a power outage; if code or the application requires the door to unlock on power loss, you want a fail safe unit instead, such as the Corbin Russwin CL33903 electrified cylindrical lever.
2) Do I order the 12VDC or 24VDC version of the 4781LN?
Match it to the power supply and access control board already on the job. The Pacific Beach 4781LN is built in 12VDC and 24VDC, and the voltage is fixed at the time of order, not field selectable. Both voltages are offered across all eight finishes.
3) Will the Yale 4781LN fit a 1-3/8 inch door?
Yes. The 4700LN chassis adjusts from 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch door thickness, which covers both standard commercial 1-3/4 inch doors and older 1-3/8 inch interior leaves. If your door runs 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch, that is the 4700 (non-LN) chassis range, not this one.
4) What backset and latch throw does the 4781LN use, and will it hit my existing strike?
Standard backset is 2-3/4 inches with a 1/2 inch stainless steel latchbolt throw, and an ANSI strike measuring 4-7/8 x 1-1/4 inches with 1-1/4 inch lip to center ships with it. If your frame is already prepped for an ANSI 4-7/8 strike on a 2-3/4 backset bored prep, it drops in. A T-strike is available to order on the 4700LN if your frame is prepped for one instead.
5) My door is 2 inches thick. Is there an electrified lever that fits?
Not this one. The 4700LN chassis tops out at 1-3/4 inches. For a 2 inch leaf, the Corbin Russwin CL33903 electrified cylindrical lever is listed for 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors, though it is a fail safe unit rather than fail secure, so confirm that suits the opening's code requirements.
6) What is the closest electrified cylindrical lever lock to the Accentra 4781LN from another manufacturer?
The Corbin Russwin CL33903 electrified cylindrical lever lock is the nearest peer. It is Grade 1 like the 4781LN, and it is offered in a keyed 12VAC/DC version with an NZ lever and D rose. 10) What keeps the latch from being shimmed on the 4781LN?
A guardbolt. On the 4700LN it deadlocks the latchbolt whenever the door is closed and is standard on every locking function, including this electrified fail secure lever. The latchbolt itself is stainless with a 1/2 inch throw, and the chassis is heavy-gauge steel with a die-cast, zinc-plated and chromated mechanism.
11) What's the difference between this electrified Yale lever and a standard mechanical cylindrical lever lock?
The 4781LN is wired: it needs 12VDC or 24VDC run to the door through a power transfer, and the outside lever is controlled by your access control system rather than by key alone. A mechanical Grade 1 cylindrical lever like the Corbin Russwin CL3110 passage or a Dexter C1000 classroom lock needs no power and no wiring prep. Choose the electrified 4781LN only if the opening is on a card reader, intercom, or other release; otherwise the mechanical unit is the simpler install.
12) If the opening does not need to be electrified, what mechanical Grade 1 cylindrical lever should I use instead of the 4781LN?
For a non-electrified opening, the Dexter C1000 Series covers the common Grade 1 cylindrical lever functions: classroom (C1000 classroom, keyed, clutching), classroom security, asylum F87, and passage. 13) Is a keypad lever like the Lockey 2835 or Delaney LP250 a substitute for the 4781LN?
They solve a different problem. The 4781LN is an electrified lever that takes its unlock signal from an access control system at 12VDC or 24VDC. The Lockey 2835 is a mechanical pushbutton keyless lever with passage function for doors 1-3/16 inch to 2 inch, and the Delaney LP250 is a Grade 2 electronic keypad leverlock - both are standalone, credential-at-the-door products with no panel wiring. If the door has to be released from a card reader, intercom or head end, only the electrified lock does that.
14) What should I put on the doors around an electrified 4781LN opening to keep the lever look consistent?
