1) What does fail secure mean on the Accentra 4781LN electrified lever lock, and what happens if power drops?
Fail secure means the outside lever stays locked when the solenoid is unpowered. Power the 4781LN and the outside lever unlocks; drop power and it locks again, so the door secures on a power loss. Inside lever always retracts the latch for free egress. This version has no mechanical key override on the outside, so if you need a key to get in during a power outage, pick a keyed electrified function instead.
2) Is the 4781LN available in 12VDC or 24VDC?
Both. The Augusta 4781LN is ordered as either 12VDC or 24VDC, and each voltage is offered across all eight finish choices. Match the voltage to your access control power supply before ordering, since the solenoid is voltage specific.
3) Will the Yale/Accentra 4781LN fit a 1-3/8 inch door as well as a standard 1-3/4 inch commercial door?
Yes. The 4700LN chassis adjusts from 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch, so it covers both older interior doors and standard commercial doors. If your door is thicker, from 1-3/4 inch up to 2 inch, that is the 4700 chassis rather than the 4700LN, and the 4700 only comes in satin stainless steel 630.
4) Will the 4781LN latch into the existing strike and prep on my door?
It is built for standard cylindrical prep: 2-3/4 inch backset, 1/2 inch stainless steel latchbolt throw, and a 2-1/4 x 1-1/8 inch beveled front. An ANSI strike, 4-7/8 x 1-1/4 inch with 1-1/4 inch lip to center, ships with it, so if your frame carries an ANSI strike box you are a drop-in. A T-strike is available to order on the 4700LN for frames prepped that way. Doors bored on a 2-3/8 inch backset will not line up.
5) Can I use the 4781LN on a fire rated door in a stairwell or corridor?
Yes. The 4700LN series is UL-cUL fire listed up to 3 hours for all functions and is certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Series 4000 Grade 1. The series is also Windstorm certified, though you should check that against your local code. The Augusta lever is ADA compliant for operation.
6) What is the difference between a fail secure electrified cylindrical lock like the 4781LN and a fail safe one?
Fail secure locks the outside lever when power is removed, which is what you want on a storeroom, tenant suite, or exterior door that must stay locked in an outage. Fail safe does the opposite: it unlocks on power loss, which is what stairwell and egress-side openings often require by code. 8) What is the closest electrified cylindrical lever lock to the Accentra 4781LN from another manufacturer?
The Corbin Russwin CL33903 is the nearest peer: it is a Grade 1 electrified cylindrical lever lock offered in a 12VAC/DC version, in the CL33900 series, with a 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch door thickness range. The Accentra 4781LN Augusta is also Grade 1 and cylindrical, and it is ordered in either 12VDC or 24VDC. The key functional difference is fail mode: the CL33903 is a fail safe lever, while the 4781LN is fail secure with no override, so the lever stays locked when power is removed.

The guardbolt deadlocks the 1/2 inch latchbolt as soon as the door closes, which blocks the shimming or loiding attack a card reader opening is otherwise exposed to. It is standard on every locking function in the 4700LN family, including the electrified 4781LN.

They solve a different problem. The 4781LN is an electrified cylindrical lever wired to 12VDC or 24VDC so an access control system holds it locked or releases it. 18) Can I order the 4781LN with a flat front instead of the beveled one?
Yes. The 2-1/4 x 1-1/8 inch beveled front is standard on the 4700LN, and a flat front is available to order. Flat is what you want on a square edge door or where the existing mortise pocket in the door edge is cut flat.
19) Is the Corbin Russwin 585F715 lever an alternative to the 4781LN?
No. The 585F715 is a Grade 1 lock lever trim for the ED8000 pushpad exit device and the CL3300 cylindrical lock series, for doors 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch. It is trim, not a complete lock. The 4781LN Augusta is a full electrified cylindrical leverset with the lever, chassis and latch.
