Accentra AU-NTT623-NR-BSP – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can I retrofit a keypad onto an exit device that already has mechanical lever trim, or do I have to replace the whole device?
The device stays. The nexTouch keypad exit trim installs in place of mechanical exit trim on many pushpad exit devices, including competitor models, using patented adjustable mounting posts that need no additional hardware. That is the point of the part: you keep the panic device already on the door and swap only the outside trim for keypad access. It works on new openings and existing doors alike, which is why it is commonly used on delivery doors and stairwells.
2) Do I need to order a cylinder separately with the nexTouch NTT623-NR exit trim?
That is your call at order time. Every finish and lever combination comes two ways: with a conventional cylinder in the PARA keyway, or Less Cylinder if you are supplying your own to match the building's keying. Choose Less Cylinder when the facility is keyed to an existing system and your locksmith will pin the cylinder; choose the PARA cylinder when you want the trim to arrive complete. The cylinder is the mechanical override, so do not skip it if you want key access when codes are not an option.
3) Is the AU-NTT623-NR the same thing as the older AU-NTT620-NR or NTT622-NR keypad exit trim?
Same product line, newer generation. The NTT623-NR is Generation 3 of the nexTouch keypad exit trim; it was sold as AU-NTT622-NR in Generation 2 and AU-NTT620-NR in Generation 1. If you have older nexTouch keypad exit trim on other openings and are adding or replacing one, the 623 is the current part to order under that number.
4) Does the nexTouch capacitive touchscreen keypad meet ADA, and is there a pushbutton version for gloved hands?
The nexTouch keypad exit trim is offered as either a capacitive touchscreen or a pushbutton keypad, and the pushbutton version is the one called out for tactile environments and ADA compliance. The NTT623-NR is the touchscreen. If your users wear gloves, work a loading dock in winter, or the opening has to meet a tactile requirement, order the pushbutton keypad version instead of the touchscreen.
5) Is this exit trim rated for commercial traffic, and what grade is it?
ANSI/BHMA Grade 1, and the trim is built for commercial rather than residential openings. Grade 1 is the highest of the three BHMA grades and the level normally specified for institutional and high-traffic commercial doors, so it clears the usual spec for schools, healthcare, multi-family common areas, and government facilities.
6) Does the keypad exit trim work on a narrow stile aluminum storefront door?
The NTT623-NR is listed for pushpad devices including Yale 7100, 6100, 2100 and 1800, Von Duprin 98 and 99, Falcon 24-R and 25-R, Dorma 9300, Corbin Russwin ED5200 and ED5200S, Sargent 8888/8810, and Arrow 3880. Where the opening is a narrow stile door, the trims built for that profile are the BEST Precision 2000 Series exit only pull trim with cover plate and the BEST 2900 Series 2901 exit only lever trim, both narrow stile for 2000 Series exit devices. Confirm the device model on the door against the compatibility list before ordering trim.
7) I want card or credential access on the exit door instead of a code. What should I use?
A keypad trim like the NTT623-NR reads codes only. For an opening controlled by an access control system with readers and credentials, the electrified trims are the right family: Command Access builds the ET15, ET25 and ET26 electrified exit trims with 12V/24V operation and fail safe or fail secure options, and the ET26 adds Grade 1 construction with a field reversible design. Von Duprin's E360L-BE-03 is a Grade 1 electric passage exit trim with the 03 lever, fail safe, for 33/35A Series devices. Falcon's 510L-FSA/FSE is a heavy duty electrified trim with a lever handle for 25 Series devices. Those are wired trims driven by an external system rather than standalone code entry at the door.
8) What is the closest electronic keypad exit trim to the Accentra NTT623-NR from another manufacturer?
The Dormakaba E-Plex 201U is the nearest electronic pushbutton exit trim, from the E-Plex 2000 Series in a wide stile configuration. The difference is the entry method: the NTT623-NR uses a capacitive touchscreen keypad, while the E-Plex 201U uses a mechanical pushbutton keypad. Dormakaba also builds the PowerPlex P201U exit trim in the PowerPlex 2000 Series, which is designed for rim, mortise and surface vertical rod devices. All three replace mechanical exit trim with code-based access at the outside of the opening.
9) What is a simpler mechanical alternative to a keypad exit trim on a Von Duprin 98 or 99 device?
The NTT623-NR mounts to Von Duprin 98 and 99 devices among others. If the opening does not need code entry, Von Duprin's own 110MD-NL is a heavy duty Grade 1 night latch cylinder assembly trim listed for 22, 55 and 98/99 devices, where a key retracts the latch. For a lever instead of a cylinder pull, the 210K-BE is a Grade 1 knob with blank escutcheon for 22 Series, and the 230DT is a Grade 1 dummy trim for 22 Series with a 10 gauge steel escutcheon. Those are key or pull operated, with no codes to program and no batteries.
10) Which exit trims look like substitutes for a keypad trim but will not give me controlled access?
Several exit trims that share the same escutcheon footprint do not control entry at all. The BEST 1700, 2000, 2900 and 4900 Series trims are exit only, meaning they are pull or lever trim with no outside entry function, and the 2000 and 2900 are narrow stile while the 1700 and 4900 are wide stile. The Detex 02BN is a dummy S-lever trim with blank escutcheon, and the Falcon 212L is a blank escutcheon lever trim for 20 Series devices. Those are appropriate where the door is egress only. The NTT623-NR is the opposite case: it grants entry by code, with up to 500 user codes in keypad only operation.
11) What is the difference between the Accentra keypad exit trim and the Command Access 230L?
The Command Access 230L is an electrified Von Duprin 230L exit trim with 12V/24V operation and fail safe or fail secure options, built for V96/36/23 Series devices. It needs power run to the door and a control system or switch to release it. The NTT623-NR is a standalone capacitive touchscreen keypad trim that stores up to 500 user codes in keypad only operation and carries a 9V battery backup so a battery failure does not cause a lockout. One is wired to a system; the other decides at the door.
12) What lever styles and finishes does the Accentra nexTouch keypad exit trim come in?
Two lever styles, Augusta (AU) and Pacific Beach (PB), in three finishes: 626 satin chrome, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze equivalent, and BSP black suede powder coat. Each lever and finish pairing is offered both with a PARA keyway cylinder and less cylinder, for twelve orderable combinations. For a property manager standardizing a building, 626 is the usual match for existing satin chrome commercial hardware and BSP for storefront black.
13) How many user codes can the nexTouch keypad exit trim hold, and what happens if the batteries die?
Up to 500 user codes in keypad-only operation, which covers a tenant roster, a contractor crew, or a full staff rotation without a head-end system. If the batteries fail, a 9V battery jump on the outside prevents a lockout, and the cylinder override lets a key get you in. That combination is why it gets specified on stairwell and delivery doors where nobody is going to notice a low-battery warning.
14) My exit device only needs a key to retract the latch from outside. Do I need the keypad trim?
No, and it would be money spent on access you do not need. For key-only outside entry, a nightlatch trim does the job: the Sargent 704ET and 704-ETL are Grade 1 heavy duty nightlatch lever trims, the Corbin Russwin VT957ET is a nightlatch escutcheon trim for ED5000 Series devices, and the Von Duprin 110MD-NL is a nightlatch cylinder assembly for 22, 55 and 98/99 devices on metal and wood doors. Go to the nexTouch keypad trim when you want to stop issuing keys entirely and manage access by code, up to 500 of them.
15) I have a Corbin Russwin ED5200 exit device. Should I put the nexTouch keypad trim on it or a Corbin trim?
Both work. The nexTouch keypad exit trim lists the Corbin Russwin ED5200 and ED5200S among its compatible devices, so it mounts directly if you want code entry. If you want to stay mechanical on that opening, the Corbin Russwin x910ET is the Grade 1 passage function heavy-duty trim for ED5200S, ED5200, ED5400 and ED5800 devices. Decide on access, not on brand matching: keypad if you are trying to get out of key management, mechanical passage trim if the door is unlocked during business hours anyway.
16) What is the mechanical equivalent for a Corbin Russwin ED5200 device if I do not want the keypad?
The NTT623-NR retrofits Corbin Russwin ED5200 and ED5200S devices. The mechanical trim from Corbin Russwin for that same device family is the x910ET, a Grade 1 passage function heavy-duty trim covering ED5200S, ED5200, ED5400 and ED5800 devices. For a night latch instead of passage on the ED5000 family, the VT957ET is a nightlatch escutcheon trim in stamped or formed stainless steel. Passage means the outside lever is always free; night latch means the key retracts the latch.
17) For a classroom door on a Falcon 24-R or 25-R device, what are my options besides the keypad trim?
The NTT623-NR retrofits Falcon 24-R and 25-R devices. Falcon's own mechanical option for that family is the 510L, a heavy duty classroom function exit device trim with a lever handle for 24/25 Series devices. For medium duty openings Falcon builds the 179L classroom function lever control trim in the 1790 Series. Classroom function means a key controls whether the outside lever is locked or unlocked; the keypad trim instead grants entry by code.
18) What is the alternative for a Sargent 8888 or 8810 device if I am staying mechanical?
The NTT623-NR mounts to Sargent 8888/8810 devices. Sargent's mechanical trims for that family include the 704ET, a Grade 1 heavy duty night latch lever trim with field reversible operation in the 700 Series, and the 704-ETL, a Grade 1 heavy duty night latch lever trim with key retract function in the PE Series. For surface vertical rod and mortise devices in the 8700 and 8900 Series, Sargent builds the 744, a Grade 1 freewheeling night latch trim where the key retracts the latch. All are key operated rather than code operated.
19) I need a keyed storeroom exit trim rather than a keypad. What should I look at?
Storeroom function keeps the outside lever locked at all times with a key retracting the latch, which is a different security model from code entry. Pamex builds the E9000 as a Grade 1 heavy duty storeroom trim with an L3 lever, fitting doors 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch thick. Design Hardware's KIL storeroom function trim serves 1000 and 2000 Series exit devices with a Schlage C keyway and a flat lever, in Grade 1. Tell's EDELT80 is a storeroom function escutcheon lever trim for doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch. Marks USA M195F is a storeroom function lever and rose trim with spring loaded roses for M9900 touchbar devices.
20) The keypad trim will not work on my door because I need a thumbpiece rather than a lever. What is available?
Thumbpiece trims are the alternative where a lever is not wanted on the outside. Dexter's ED1000T-CLRM-TP-NC is a Grade 1 classroom function trim built as a thumbpiece with a pull plate and cylinder, supplied less cylinder. Tell's EDTHP53 is a thumbpiece trim in keyed entry function for doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch thick. The NTT623-NR is a keypad trim and is also offered less cylinder, or with a conventional cylinder in the PARA keyway.
21) What is the plain pull trim option for a night latch delivery door instead of an electronic keypad?
For a delivery door where staff enter by key and everyone else uses the pull, a night latch pull trim is the simpler build. Dexter's ED1500T-PULL-NC is a Grade 1 nightlatch function trim with a raised lip pull plate. Design Hardware's 2P-03NL is a Grade 1 pull trim with a cylinder hole for 1000R and 2000R exit devices. Tell's EDPT is a pull trim with a cylinder hole supplied less cylinder, for doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch thick. The keypad trim covers the same delivery door application by code instead of key.
22) I have a Dorma 9300 device. Is the Dorma YR03R the same thing as the keypad trim?
No. The NTT623-NR is compatible with Dorma 9300 devices and grants entry by keypad code. The Dorma YR03R is a wide stile exit device lever trim, escutcheon with R lever, in night latch function and supplied less cylinder, so entry is by key. Choosing between them is a question of whether the opening should be managed with codes or with keys.
23) I need keyed entry lever trim rather than a keypad. What are the entry function choices?
Entry function trims unlock the outside lever with a key. Design Hardware's KIL entry function trim serves 1000 and 2000 Series exit devices with a Schlage C keyway and a flat lever in Grade 1, and the LE08 is a Grade 1 entry function trim for 1000R and 2000R devices with a flat lever and escutcheon. Tell's EDELT53 is a keyed entry escutcheon lever trim for doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch. Delaney's 500L comes in CT, MD and SD lever styles, all entrance function. The keypad trim covers the same doors but replaces the key with a code, which is what removes key management from the job.
24) Is there a mechanical pushbutton lock that does the same job as the touchscreen keypad trim?
Dormakaba's E-Plex 5000 Series model 5067 is a mechanical pushbutton lock in a mortise configuration for wide stile doors, entered by pressing a code with no electronics behind it. The NTT623-NR is a capacitive touchscreen keypad trim that mounts to an existing pushpad exit device and supports up to 500 user codes with a keypad lockout that disables the keypad for a default of 180 seconds after five successive failed attempts. The 5067 is a lock for the door; the NTT623-NR is trim for an exit device, so the device already on the opening decides which applies.
25) What stops someone from standing at the door guessing codes on the nexTouch keypad?
A keypad lockout. After five successive failed attempts the keypad disables itself for a default of 180 seconds, which makes brute-force guessing at an exterior door impractical. Combined with the key cylinder override, an authorized person can still get in during the lockout window.
26) What passage function exit trim would I pair with a separate access control system instead of a keypad trim?
When the locking is handled elsewhere and the trim only needs to operate the device, passage function trims are the pairing. Corbin Russwin builds the 3310AET as a Grade 1 passage function trim for rim, surface vertical rod and mortise devices in the ED300 Series, and the x810ET as Grade 1 passage function trim for SecureBolt, rim, surface and concealed vertical rod devices in the ED4000 Series. Arrow's SRX01 is a passage function trim with a Sierra lever and rose for ED910, S1150 and S1250 devices. These leave the outside lever always free, so the control lives in the electric strike or mag lock rather than in the trim.
