The ASSA ABLOY ACCENTRA® YPL Series cylindrical lock with status indicators provides enhanced privacy at a glance with it's bold green and red status symbols. 1) Will the Accentra YPL42 indicator lock fit a 1-3/8 inch door?
Not as it ships. The YPL42 is built for 1-3/4 inch doors standard. For a 1-3/8 inch door you need to add the adapter plate kit, model APK-2. That is the only way to make it work on the thinner leaf, so order the kit with the lock if any of your openings are older 1-3/8 inch doors.
2) What backset comes with the Accentra YPL42 privacy lock, and can I get 2-3/8 inch?
A 2-3/4 inch backset latch is supplied standard with the YPL series indicator locksets. If your door is prepped for a 2-3/8 inch backset, specify latch part number 378PL instead. Those are the two usual bored-lock backsets, so check the existing cross-bore location before ordering.
3) Do I need to worry about handing on the Accentra YPL42 indicator lever?
No. The padlock icons on the indicator are positioned so the lock reads correctly either way, which makes it non-handed. One part number covers left and right hand openings.
4) How does staff get into a locked restroom or patient room in an emergency with this Accentra indicator lock?
The F76A function includes tool override. An emergency key or tool, supplied with the lock, inserts and turns in the outside lever to unlock the door from the corridor side. A coin turn also works for emergency access. From inside, rotating the lever or simply closing the door releases the pushbutton and flips the indicator back to green.
5) Can the Accentra YPL42 go on a fire rated door?
Yes. The YPL series lever lock is UL Listed for 3 hour fire doors, and the lever is ADA compliant. That combination covers most corridor and stairwell-adjacent restroom openings in schools and healthcare buildings.
6) Will the Accentra indicator lock drop into an existing bored lock prep, or does the door need new machining?
It uses a standard bored lock door prep, so on a retrofit you are generally reusing the existing 161 prep as long as the backset matches. Confirm 2-3/4 inch backset (or order the 378PL latch for 2-3/8) and 1-3/4 inch door thickness. It is through-bolted, which is what gives it the rigidity for high-traffic openings.
7) Is the Schlage B560 indicator deadbolt a substitute for the Accentra TBYP42?
No, they do different jobs. The Schlage B560 is a Grade 2 single cylinder indicator deadbolt with a key cylinder outside and thumbturn inside, indicator reading UNLOCKED/LOCKED on the inside, for doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-7/8 inch thick. Its indicator faces the occupant, and it is keyed. The Accentra TBYP42 is non-keyed, uses a pushbutton privacy function with an emergency tool override, and displays the red closed padlock and green open padlock icons to the person outside the door. If the point is telling people in the corridor whether the room is occupied, the B560 will not do it.
8) For a single-occupancy public restroom that also needs to be lockable by staff with a key, what should I look at instead of the Accentra TBYP42?
The Falcon H2171 is the option there. It is a Grade 2 public restroom interconnected lock with an occupancy indicator and a single cylinder deadbolt, from the H2 Series, so staff can key the door while the occupant sets the indicator. The Accentra TBYP42 is non-keyed and releases from outside only with the supplied emergency key/tool turned in the outside lever.
9) My door is 1-3/8 inch thick. Which indicator products cover that thickness besides the Accentra TBYP42?
The Arrow E50 is a Grade 2 exit deadlock with a VACANT/OCCUPIED indicator outside, non-keyed, covering 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors. The Schlage B560 indicator deadbolt covers 1-3/8 inch to 1-7/8 inch. The Accentra TBYP42 installs on 1-3/4 inch doors standard and reaches 1-3/8 inch doors by adding the APK-2 adapter plate kit, so it remains an option if you order the adapters with it.
10) Is a cylindrical indicator lock better than a separate indicator deadbolt for a single-occupancy restroom?
The YPL42 puts latching, privacy locking and the status window in one bored lockset, so you get one motion for egress and one device to install.
