ACSI 1310-6 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the difference between momentary and maintained switching, and which does the 1310-6 use?
The 1310-6 carries two momentary switches. Momentary means the contacts transfer only while the key is held turned and spring back when released, so an electric strike buzzes open for as long as you hold it. Maintained switching latches in position and stays there until you turn it back, which is what you want to hold a mag lock off or leave a door unlocked through business hours. If you need latching behavior, look at a maintained device like the RCI 919 Series rotary release button or the RCI 908 Series exit button with maintained operation instead.
2) I need a momentary contact to release an electric strike - is the ACSI 1310-6 the only option?
No. The ACSI 1310-6 provides two momentary switches in a single gang wall mount body and is built to control electric locks, electric strikes and electric exit devices. If you do not need key control on the release, other momentary devices do the same switching: the RCI 950 Series round push plate with handicap symbol is a momentary switch in satin stainless steel, and the RCI 909 Series flush mount rocker is a momentary switch rated 250VAC 10A. The difference is actuation method, not function.
3) Is the ACSI 1310-6 an ADA-compliant actuator for a barrier-free entrance?
The ACSI 1310-6 is not ADA compliant, and a key turn is not a barrier-free actuation in any case. For a handicap entrance actuator, the RCI 950 Series round push plate carries the handicap symbol and is a momentary switch in satin stainless steel, and the DynaLock 6210 Series palm switch is sized for palm actuation. Many jobs use both: a push plate for public barrier-free entry and a keyswitch like the 1310-6 for authorized control of the same opening.
4) What can I use instead of the ACSI 1310-6 if the opening does not need key control?
The ACSI 1310-6 is a mortise keyswitch, which means the opening is actuated by a cylinder keyed into the facility master key system. If authorized-only actuation is not required, a plain pushbutton station covers the same control job without a cylinder: the Securitron PB3 is a push button series, and the DynaLock 6115A is a one-pushbutton, 1-gang station with alternate action. Choose the keyswitch only when you want the release restricted to keyholders.
5) The ACSI 1310-6 is momentary - what do I use if I need the circuit to stay latched?
The 1310-6 carries two momentary switches, so the contact transfers only while the key is turned. For a station that stays in the selected state until it is changed, use an alternate action or maintained device: the DynaLock 6115A is an alternate-action pushbutton, the DynaLock 6210 Series palm switch is alternate-action SPDT, and the RCI 908 with red EXIT text and the RCI 919 rotary release button are both maintained operation. Pick maintained for hold-open or shunt duty and momentary for a timed release.
6) Can I mount the ACSI 1310-6 outside on an exterior gate or entry?
The 1310-6 is a single gang wall mount keyswitch and is not described as a weatherproof device. For an exposed exterior location, the DynaLock 6171 is a weatherproof pushbutton with a blank faceplate. Note the tradeoff: the 6171 is a pushbutton, so it will not give you the key control that the mortise cylinder on the 1310-6 provides.
7) For an emergency egress release, does the ACSI 1310-6 work or do I need a different device?
The 1310-6 requires a key to actuate, so it is a control device rather than an egress device - it suits authorized release, not life-safety exit. For emergency egress the Securitron EEB is an emergency exit push button with interchangeable LED lenses, and the RCI 908 Series electronic exit button carries red EXIT text with maintained operation. Use the keyswitch for staff control and a dedicated exit button where occupants must release the door themselves.
8) Why would I want two switches in one ACSI keyswitch?
Two momentary switches in the single gang 1310-6 let one key device drive two separate circuits, or two separate actions, from one wall plate. Common use is releasing a lock on one circuit while shunting an alarm or signaling an access panel on the other, so you are not cutting two boxes in the wall for one opening.
9) What contact configuration do ACSI 1300 Series keyswitches use?
DPDT unless the specific model is noted otherwise. Double pole double throw gives you two independent sets of transfer contacts per switch, so you can break one circuit and make another at the same time, which is what lets a single key turn both release a lock and shunt a door contact.
10) Is the ACSI 1310-6 a flush mount or surface wall mount unit?
It is a wall mount keyswitch in a single gang format, so it drops into a standard single gang wall box location rather than mounting into the door itself. If your install is exterior and exposed to weather, this is not the right device; a weatherproof unit such as the DynaLock 6171 Series weatherproof pushbutton is built for that condition.
11) If I want an audible signal when the keyswitch releases the door, what do I add?
The 1310-6 itself is a switch only, it has no sounder. Wire the second momentary switch to an annunciator such as the DynaLock 6300 Series audible annunciator, which runs on 6 to 28 VDC. Having two momentary switches in the single gang device is what makes that possible without a second wall box, since one drives the lock and the other drives the sounder.
12) I need a visible indication that the door released - the ACSI 1310-6 has no light. What else is available?
The 1310-6 is a keyswitch with two momentary switches and no annunciation of its own. For visual feedback, the Securitron PB4L has an illuminated halo with a stainless push button and the PB5 is a medium round illuminated push button. For audible feedback the DynaLock 6300 Series is an audible annunciator operating on 6 to 28 VDC, which can be added alongside a keyswitch station rather than replacing it.
13) The ACSI 1310-6 needs a single gang box - what if I only have a narrow jamb or mullion?
The 1310-6 mounts in a single gang wall box, which a narrow stile or mullion will not accept. For that condition the Trine 342 is a narrow style electric door switch, and the RCI 909 Series flush mount rocker is a flush mounted switch. Both give up the mortise cylinder, so if key control is mandatory on a narrow mounting surface the keyswitch has to go in an adjacent wall instead.
14) What is the difference between the ACSI 1310-6 and the RCI 919 rotary release button? They both turn.
They look similar because both are rotary actuators, but they are not interchangeable. The ACSI 1310-6 is a mortise keyswitch: it takes a mortise cylinder so the opening can be keyed into the facility master key system, and it carries two momentary switches. The RCI 919 is a rotary release button with maintained operation in satin aluminum - it turns without a key and holds its position. Specify the 1310-6 when only keyholders may actuate the opening.
15) Is the ACSI 1310-6 rated for commercial use or is it a residential product?
Commercial. The 1300 Series mortise keyswitch is a commercial access control device intended for electric locks, strikes and exit devices in facility applications, not a residential switch.
