ACSI 1335-5 Door Position Standard ANSI, DPDT, NO/NC contacts

Door Position Sensors
ACSI Series 1335 Door Position Sensors are used to confirm
door position. Magnetic sensors mounted in the frame react to
the proximity of the magnet mounted in the door. Pneumatic
models also available for use in hazardous locations.

ACSI 1335-5 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) How does the ACSI 1335-5 door position sensor actually detect that the door is closed?
It's a magnetic sensor pair. The sensing unit mounts in the door frame and a magnet mounts in the door leaf; when the door swings shut, the magnet comes into proximity with the frame-mounted sensor and the contacts change state. So you're confirming door position, not latch or bolt position. If the door is closed but the lock hasn't thrown, this sensor still reads closed.
2) What does DPDT with NO/NC contacts mean for wiring the 1335-5 into my access control panel?
DPDT means two independent switched circuits in the one sensor, each with both a normally open and a normally closed path. Practically, that lets you send one set to your access control panel as a door position input and use the second set for something else, an alarm shunt, an annunciator, or a monitored input at the head end, without adding a second contact to the frame. You pick NO or NC per circuit to match what the panel expects.
3) Is the ACSI 1335 sensor a standard ANSI prep or does it need a custom cutout?
The 1335-5 is the standard ANSI version, so it goes into the standard ANSI strike prep in the frame rather than a special drilled hole. That is what makes it practical on an existing opening that already has an ANSI prep, and on hollow metal frames ordered with standard prep from the factory.
4) Can I use this door contact in a hazardous or explosion-risk area?
Not this one. The 1335-5 is an electrical magnetic sensor. ACSI also builds pneumatic models in the same family for hazardous locations, and that is the version to specify where an electrical contact isn't permitted.
5) I need to know when a door is left propped open across a building. Will these work for door-held-open monitoring?
Yes, that's the normal use. Because the 1335 sensor reports door position, wiring the contact to your access control or building system input gives you door-open and door-closed state, which is what a held-open or forced-door alarm is built on. The timing and alarm logic live in the panel, not in the sensor. Standardizing on the same 1335 sensor and ANSI prep across the openings keeps the wiring and spares consistent.
6) Is the ACSI 1335-5 rated for commercial openings or is it a residential-grade contact?
Commercial. It's part of ACSI's 1300 Series access control line, built for commercial door hardware use, not a light-duty residential surface reed switch stuck to a door face.
7) Does the 1335-5 come with the magnet, or do I order that separately?
The sensor works as a two-piece set: the magnetic sensor in the frame and the magnet in the door. Order it as a matched door position sensor set so the frame unit and the door magnet are paired, and plan the door prep for the magnet at the same time you prep the frame for the sensor.
