ACSI 1335-6 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) How does the ACSI 1335 door position sensor actually detect that the door is closed?
It's a two-piece magnetic sensor. The switch body mounts in the frame and a separate magnet mounts in the door, so when the door swings shut the magnet comes into proximity with the frame-mounted sensor and the contact changes state. That means it reports door position, not lock status, so a door held shut but unlocked still reads as closed. Both halves have to line up across the gap at the same height for it to work.
2) Will an ACSI 1335 door position sensor tell my access control panel whether the door is locked?
No. A 1300 Series door position sensor reports only whether the door is in the closed position against the frame. If you need to know that the latch or bolt is actually thrown, that's a latch monitor or bolt position switch on the lock itself, a separate device. Many jobs use both: door position for held-open and forced-door alarms, latch monitoring for secure status.
3) Can I use a magnetic door position sensor in a hazardous or explosion-risk area?
Not this one. For hazardous locations ACSI builds pneumatic door position models in the same family, and that's what belongs in an area where a switching contact is a problem. The magnetic 1335 is the standard choice for ordinary commercial openings.
4) What do I need to order alongside an ACSI 1335 door position switch to finish the install?
Plan for both halves and the wire path. The sensor sits in the frame and the magnet sits in the door, so the opening needs prep on both leaves of the assembly, plus a wire run from the frame-mounted switch back to whatever it reports to, an access control panel, alarm input, or automatic operator logic. Nothing on the door side is wired, so the magnet half is the easy one; the frame side is where the raceway has to land.
5) Is the ACSI 1335 rated for commercial openings or is it a residential contact?
Commercial. The 1300 Series door position sensors are a commercial access control component, typically tied back to an access control panel or alarm system to monitor door status on an opening rather than to secure a home entry door.
