1) Will the ACSI 1550K-MDX work on my Dorex 9500 exit device?
That's exactly what the 1550K-MDX is built for. It's a motorized latch retraction modification made specifically for Dorex 9500 Series exit devices, and nothing else. Each kit in ACSI's 1500 Series is cut for one manufacturer's device family, so if your opening has a different brand of panic hardware you need the matching kit, not this one. Also worth knowing up front: you supply the exit device, ACSI supplies the modification.
2) I have Von Duprin 98/99 devices, not Dorex. Which ACSI motor latch retraction kit do I order?
For Von Duprin 33A/35A and 98/99 the kit is the ACSI 1550K-MDV, and for the Von Duprin 22 it's the 1550K-MDV22. The MDX is Dorex 9500 only. 3) What power supply do I need for an ACSI 1550K-MDX motor latch retraction kit?
It runs on 24VDC, and ACSI recommends its own Series 1400 power supplies to feed it. The leads are non-polarized, so you don't have to chase polarity at the terminal block during rough-in. Current draw is low and the motor is continuous duty rated, which matters if the device is going to sit retracted all day on a scheduled unlock.
4) Can I use electric latch retraction on a fire rated door with an exit device?
Yes, the ACSI 1550K-MDX modification is UL Listed for both panic and fire exit hardware. No, and this is the part people get wrong on the PO. The 1550K-MDX is a modification kit only, a component that adds motorized latch retraction to a Dorex 9500 exit device. The exit device itself is a separate purchase, and so is the 24VDC power supply that drives the motor.
7) My Dorex 9500 is a surface vertical rod device, not a rim. Is there a different version of the ACSI kit?
The 1550K motorized retraction modification is available for mortise, rim, concealed vertical rod and surface vertical rod exit devices, so the device chassis type on your Dorex 9500 isn't a barrier. What you'll want to state on the order is which of those four you have, since the modification is built to the device you send in or install onto.
