ACSI ACSI-ACND80PDEL ATH 626 12V – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What happens to the ACSI ACND80PDEL electric cylindrical lock if the power drops?
Fail safe means the outside lever unlocks when power is removed. With power applied, the ACND80PDEL behaves as a storeroom lock (outside lever locked, key or credential required). Cut the power and it reverts to passage, so anyone can push through from either side. That is the configuration used on stairtower and controlled-area doors that have to release on a fire alarm or power loss. If you need the opposite behavior, locked on power failure, order the fail secure version (ACND80PDEU).
2) Can I still get in with a key if the ACSI storeroom electric lock is electrically locked?
Yes. Where a key cylinder is supplied in the lock, the latchbolt can be momentarily retracted with the key even while the lock is electrically locked. The reverse does not work: a lock that is electrically unlocked cannot be locked again with the key. So the cylinder is your mechanical override for entry, not a way to override the access control system's unlock command.
3) What does the RX option add on the ACSI ACND80PDEL, and do I need it?
RX is the request-to-exit switch. It signals the access control panel that someone has turned the inside lever to leave, so the panel can shunt the door alarm instead of reporting a forced door. You choose RX or NONE when ordering. If the opening is monitored by an alarm or access system, you want RX; on a door that is only remotely locked and unlocked with no monitoring, the NONE version is enough.
4) Does this ACSI electric lock run on 12V or 24V, and does it need a battery?
Both voltages are offered, 12V and 24V, and you pick one at order time. This is a solenoid-controlled lockset, so unlike the field-selectable motor-driven lock bodies, the voltage and the fail safe/fail secure behavior are fixed by the part you order. It is hard wired with no battery, so you need power run to the door, typically through an electric hinge or power transfer.
5) What is the difference between the ACSI ACND80PDEL and the ACND80BDEL or ACND80JDEL?
All three are Grade 1 storeroom electric cylindrical locks with a request-to-exit switch. The difference is cylinder prep. The ACND80BDEL is prepped for a 7-pin small format interchangeable core, the ACND80JDEL is prepped for a Schlage full-size interchangeable core, and the ACND80PDEL uses a key-in-lever cylinder with a C keyway. Match the one that fits your existing keying system so the door falls into the building master key.
6) What is an alternative to the ACSI ACND80PDEL if I need an electrified cylindrical lockset from a different manufacturer?
The DynaLock ECL-1 is an electrified cylindrical lockset and covers the same basic role: a bored lock with electric control of the outside trim. The ACSI ACND80PDEL is a Grade 1 storeroom-function cylindrical lock in the 1500 Series, hard wired rather than battery operated, and is ordered by finish, lever style, voltage (12V or 24V) and whether a request-to-exit switch is included. Choose based on which control scheme and trim selection your access control drawing calls for.
7) I need the door to stay locked if power is lost, not unlock. What should I order instead of the ACND80PDEL?
The ACND80PDEL is the fail safe version, meaning the outside trim unlocks when power is removed. For an opening that must remain locked during a power failure, order the fail secure ACSI ACND80PDEU Grade 1 storeroom electric cylindrical lock instead, which locks the outside trim when power is removed. Stairwell and life-safety openings are typically the ones specified fail safe; storage and equipment rooms are usually fail secure.
8) Is the ACND80PDEL heavy enough for a high traffic commercial door?
It is a Grade 1 commercial cylindrical lockset, the heaviest ANSI/BHMA duty tier, so it suits stairwells, corridors and other high-use openings in schools, hospitals and office buildings. It is not a residential-grade product. The lock is UL Listed and ACSI builds it to interface with life-safety systems.
9) Which lever styles and finishes can I get on the ACSI 1500 Series electric cylindrical lock?
Five lever designs are offered: Athens, Omega, Rhodes, Sparta and Tubular. Finishes run 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil-rubbed satin bronze, 619 satin nickel, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome and 643E aged bronze. If you are matching existing openings in a building, pick the lever and BHMA finish number already on the other doors so the electrified opening does not stand out.
10) Should I use an electrified cylindrical lock or an electric mortise lock for a stairwell door?
A cylindrical lock like the ACND80PDEL installs into a standard bored door prep, which makes it the quicker retrofit on doors already carrying a cylindrical lockset. ACSI also builds Series 1500 electric mortise lock bodies in Schlage, Corbin Russwin, Sargent, Yale, Best and Falcon for doors already mortised. Go mortise only if the door is prepped for it; otherwise the cylindrical version avoids re-prepping the door. Both keep the door latched, which is what stairtower and controlled-area openings require.
11) Can this ACSI lock be used on a federally funded project?
The ACND80PDEL is BAA qualified, which matters on government, military and federally funded institutional work where Buy American Act sourcing is a condition of the contract.
12) What ACSI lock should I use on a high-abuse door where levers get kicked or hung on?
For abuse-prone openings, the ACSI ACND96PDEL is the Vandlgard version of the Grade 1 storeroom electric cylindrical lock with fail safe operation and a request-to-exit switch. The ACND80PDEL is the standard-lever storeroom model in the same 1500 Series family. Both are Grade 1 cylindrical locks; the difference is the lever behavior under force.
13) Can I use an ACSI electric lock body by itself instead of the ACND80PDEL?
No, they are not interchangeable. The ACSI ACL9080EU/EL is an electric lock body only, supplied at 12/24VAC/DC with field selectable fail safe or fail secure operation, intended to electrify a mortise lock you already have. The ACND80PDEL is a complete Grade 1 storeroom cylindrical lockset supplied with the lever trim and finish you select. If the door has a cylindrical prep and you need the whole lock, the ACND80PDEL is the correct item.
14) Is there a simpler ACSI option if the door only needs to be exit-only with no outside key?
Yes. The ACSI ACND12DEL is a Grade 1 electric cylindrical lock with a reversible lever configured exit only, fail safe, at 12VAC/DC, with a fail secure counterpart in the ACND12DEU. The ACND80PDEL is the storeroom-function model with a key-in-lever cylinder for controlled outside entry, so it is the choice only when someone needs to key in from the secure side.
15) Is there another brand of electrified cylindrical lockset besides ACSI?
DynaLock's ECL-1 electrified cylindrical lockset is the other option we carry in this category. The ACSI ACND80PDEL is the one to specify when you need a stated Grade 1 storeroom function with a factory request-to-exit switch and a choice of 12V or 24V AC/DC solenoid operation.
