ACSI ACSI-ACND96PDEL ATH 626 12V – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What happens to the ACSI ACND96PDEL electric cylindrical lock if the power drops?
Fail safe, so the outside lever unlocks when power is removed. With power applied it behaves as a storeroom lock (outside lever locked, latch retracted by key or from inside); cut the power and it reverts to passage, free entry from either side. That is the behavior you want on a stairtower door that has to release for egress or on a life-safety release. If you need the opposite, the lock to stay locked in a power failure, order the fail secure version instead.
2) Can I still get in with a key if the ACND96PDEL is electrically locked?
Yes. When a key cylinder is fitted, the latchbolt can be momentarily retracted with the key even while the lock is electrically locked. The reverse does not work: if the lock is electrically unlocked, you cannot lock it with the key. Access control keeps final say over the locked state.
3) Does the ACSI ACND96PDEL lock need 12V or 24V, and is it wired or battery powered?
It is hard wired, not battery operated, and you choose the voltage when you order: 12V or 24V, AC or DC, on continuous duty solenoids. Because it is solenoid controlled rather than motor controlled, the voltage and the fail safe/fail secure mode are fixed at the time of order, not field selectable. Size your power supply for continuous draw, since the solenoid is energized the whole time the door is meant to be locked.
4) What is the RX option on this ACSI lock and do I need it?
RX is the built-in request to exit switch. Order it when your access control panel needs to know the inside lever has been turned, so it can shunt the door alarm for a legitimate exit instead of reporting a forced door. Switch Type can be ordered as RX or NONE; pick NONE only if the opening has no alarm shunt or REX requirement.
5) Is this ACSI lock handed, or will one part number work on both a left and right hand door?
The lever is reversible, so one lock covers either hand. You do not specify handing when ordering, which also means a property with mixed swings can stock a single part number.
6) What keying options does ACSI offer on these electric cylindrical locks if my building is on small format interchangeable core?
The P version takes a conventional key-in-lever cylinder. If your masterkey system runs on interchangeable cores, order a different suffix from the same family instead: the ACND96BDEL is prepped for 7-pin SFIC, and the ACND96JDEL is prepped for Schlage FSIC. All three are the same Vandlgard storeroom fail safe lock with RX, so the only decision is which cylinder prep matches your existing system.
7) For a federal project with Buy American requirements, is the DynaLock ECL-1 or the ACSI ACND96PDEL the safer pick?
The ACSI ACND96PDEL is BAA qualified and is a Grade 1 commercial lock, which is what a government or institutional submittal typically needs to show. The DynaLock ECL-1 is also an electrified cylindrical lockset, but for a specification that calls out Buy American compliance the ACND96PDEL carries that qualification on the record.
8) What does Vandlgard mean on the ACND96 electric cylindrical lock, and is it worth it over the standard ACND80?
Vandlgard is the clutched outside lever: when the lock is secured the outside lever moves freely instead of transmitting force into the lock body, so someone hanging on it or kicking it down does not break the chassis. On abuse-prone openings, school corridors, dorms, stairtowers, public restroom approaches, that is the version to standardize on. The ACSI ACND80 line is the same storeroom electric cylindrical lock without the Vandlgard clutch.
9) Is the ACSI ACND96PDEL heavy duty enough for a school or hospital corridor door?
It is a Grade 1 commercial cylindrical lockset, the heaviest ANSI/BHMA duty class for bored locks, and it is UL Listed. Combined with the Vandlgard clutched lever, that is the specification level normally written for institutional corridor and stairtower traffic. It is not a residential product.
10) Does this ACSI electric lock qualify for a federal or government job with domestic sourcing requirements?
Yes, the ACND96PDEL is BAA qualified, which matters when the spec on a government, GSA or federally funded project calls for Buy American Act compliant hardware.
11) What other brand of electrified cylindrical lockset could I use instead of the ACSI 1500 Series?
DynaLock's ECL-1 electrified cylindrical lockset is the cross-brand alternative ZenSupply carries in this category. Within ACSI itself, the closer swaps are the ACND96PDEU, same Vandlgard storeroom lock but fail secure, or the ACND80PDEL if you do not need the Vandlgard clutched lever. Stay with ACSI if the job is already keyed and finished around that line.
12) Can this lock be tied into the fire alarm so stairwell doors release?
Yes. The 1500 Series is built to interface with life-safety systems, and in fail safe form dropping power from a fire alarm relay releases the outside lever to passage. That is the usual arrangement for stairtower doors where the opening must both latch and unlock on alarm. Security monitoring options are also offered if the panel needs latch or door status back.
13) Will a DynaLock ECL-1 give me the same finish and lever choices as the ACSI ACND96PDEL?
The ACSI ACND96PDEL is offered in eight finishes from 605 bright brass through 626 satin chrome and 643E aged bronze, with Athens, Omega, Rhodes, Sparta, and Tubular lever styles, so it can be matched to existing trim across a building. The DynaLock ECL-1 is an electrified cylindrical lockset in the ECL-1 series; where lever style and finish continuity across a stair tower or corridor is the deciding factor, the ACND96PDEL is the one with the published range.
14) How does the DynaLock ECL-1 compare with the ACSI ACND96PDEL electric cylindrical lock?
Both are electrified cylindrical locksets. The ACSI ACND96PDEL is a Grade 1 storeroom-function lock with a lever handle, hard wired, and offered with a request to exit switch option and 12V or 24V operation. The DynaLock ECL-1 is an electrified cylindrical lockset in the ECL-1 series; if your specification is written around a Grade 1 storeroom lever with RX monitoring, the ACND96PDEL is the one that matches those terms directly.
15) I need an electrified cylindrical lock but I do not need request to exit monitoring. What are my options?
The ACSI ACND96PDEL can be ordered without the RX switch as well as with it, so you can take the same Grade 1 storeroom lever without the monitoring contact. The DynaLock ECL-1 is another electrified cylindrical lockset to consider when the access control head end does not need a lock-mounted egress signal.
16) Is a battery powered electronic lever an alternative to the ACSI ACND96PDEL?
No. The ACSI ACND96PDEL is hard wired and not battery operated, because it is designed to lock or unlock remotely from an access control or life safety system. A standalone battery lever has no such connection. The comparable electrified option is the DynaLock ECL-1 electrified cylindrical lockset.
