1) Does the ACSI M1520M-1-8205 mortise lock lock or unlock when power is lost?
As shipped it is fail secure: the outside trim unlocks when power is applied and locks when power is removed, so the lockset stays locked in a power failure. The inside lever always retreats the latch for free egress. On this motor controlled lock the fail safe / fail secure mode is field selectable, so if the opening needs to release on power loss you can set it that way without ordering a different lock.
2) Will this ACSI mortise lock latch into the strike already in my frame?
The latchbolt is a one piece anti-friction reversible latch, 5/8 x 1 inch, with a 3/4 inch throw. It is supplied to work with a curved lip strike measuring 4-7/8 x 1-1/4 inches with a 1-1/4 inch lip. If your existing frame is prepped for a standard ANSI 4-7/8 inch mortise strike, the latch lines up; a T-strike or a non-standard lip length will need the frame reworked.
3) Do I have to specify handing when ordering this ACSI 1500 Series mortise lock?
No. It is field reversible, and the latch itself is a reversible one piece design, so one lock covers left and right hand openings. That is useful for a property manager stocking spares across a building: a single part number covers every door swing.
4) What voltage and current does this electrified mortise lock draw?
It runs on 12 to 24V, AC or DC, drawing 250mA inrush and 10mA holding. That holding draw is low enough that a modest access control power supply can carry several openings. It is continuous duty rated, so it can sit energized indefinitely without a special duty cycle.
5) Is this ACSI electrified mortise lock Grade 1 for a high traffic institutional opening?
It meets ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Series 1000, Operational Grade 1 and Security Grade 1 with all standard trims, and the hub is cold forged steel. That is the top commercial grade, which is what a school, hospital or government facility spec normally calls for. It is also listed as ADA compliant, and the lever trim is what satisfies that.
6) Does a cylinder come with the ACSI M1520M-1-8205 mortise lock?
No, it ships less cylinder. You order the mortise cylinder separately in your own keyway so it can be keyed into the building's existing system. Plan on a standard mortise cylinder with the correct cam for the Sargent 8200 case, along with the matching cylinder collar for your finish.
7) What lever designs and finishes can I get on this ACSI Sargent 8200 electrified mortise lock?
Trim is LN rose design with a choice of B, J, L or P lever. Finishes are 605 bright brass, 613 satin bronze oil rubbed, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome and 10A satin bronze blackened. If you are matching existing hardware in a building, 626 satin chrome is the usual commercial default; pick the lever shape to match the other openings.
8) Can my access control panel tell whether the door is actually latched?
Yes. This lock is supplied with a latchbolt monitor, a switch that reports the latchbolt position back to the head end, so the panel can distinguish a truly secured door from one that is pushed to but not latched. It is built to interface with life safety systems as well, so it can be released on a fire alarm signal.
9) Should I pick a motor controlled or a solenoid controlled ACSI 1500 Series mortise lock?
The 1500 Series comes both ways. The M1520M is motor controlled, and that is where you get user selectable fail safe or fail secure operation plus low power consumption, so one lock can be set either way in the field and several can share a small supply. A solenoid controlled version is the simpler choice when the mode is fixed by the spec and never changes. For stairtowers, where the code officer may want the mode set on site, the motor controlled lock is the safer order.
10) What is the 8205 function on this lock, and does the inside lever ever lock?
8205 is the Sargent office/entry function. Access control is on the outside, secure side trim, which the standard control locks and unlocks electrically; the inside lever is always free for egress. Combined with fail secure operation, the door stays locked to the outside on power loss but anyone inside can always get out.
