1) What happens to this ACSI 1500 Series mortise lock when the power drops?
As supplied in the 1520M fail secure configuration, the outside trim is unlocked while power is applied and locks when power is removed, so a power failure leaves the door secure from the outside. The inside lever always retracts the latch for egress, and the lock carries authorized egress (request to exit) signalling. Because it's motor controlled, fail safe versus fail secure is field selectable.
2) What voltage and current do I need to power the ACSI M1520M electric mortise lock?
It runs on 12 to 24 VAC or VDC, drawing 250 mA inrush and 10 mA holding. The holding draw is low enough that several openings can sit on a modest access control power supply, and the lock is continuous duty rated, so it can stay energized indefinitely.
3) Is this ACSI electrified mortise lock approved for a fire-rated stairtower door?
Yes. The 1500 Series electric mortise lock is UL and cUL Listed, California State Fire Marshal approved, and tested to ANSI/UL 10C positive pressure fire test of door assemblies, with fire doors named as an application. Yes, it's a handed lock, ordered left hand or right hand. Stand outside the door: if the hinges are on your left, it's left hand. Each finish is built both ways, so left and right hand are both available in Satin Chrome and in Oil Rubbed Bronze. The latch itself is a one piece anti-friction reversible latch, but the lock is still ordered handed.
5) Does the ACSI M1520M mortise lock come with a cylinder?
No. It ships less cylinder, so you supply a mortise cylinder in your building's keyway and keying scheme. That's useful if you're standardizing an existing masterkey system, but it means the lock is not complete out of the box: plan on a mortise cylinder with the correct cam for the Sargent 8200 case.
6) Will this lock latch into my existing mortise strike?
The lock uses a 5/8 x 1 inch latchbolt with a 3/4 inch throw, and it's furnished with a curved lip strike measuring 4-7/8 x 1-1/4 inches with a 1-1/4 inch lip. If your frame is already prepped for a standard 4-7/8 inch ANSI mortise strike, the new strike drops into the same cutout. Odd or older strike preps may need the frame worked.

Trim is LN rose with the A lever design, a 5 inch lever on a 2-1/8 by 2-1/8 inch rose, with a cold forged steel hub behind it. Two finishes are built: Satin Chrome and Oil Rubbed Bronze, each in left and right hand. If your other openings run Sargent 8200 trim, the LN/A combination matches.
8) Can I get door position or latch status feedback from this electric mortise lock?
The lock includes a latchbolt monitor, so you get a signal at the access control panel telling you whether the latch is projected. Combined with the request to exit switch, that covers both the forced-door and valid-egress inputs most panels want, without adding a separate door contact for latch status.
