Adams Rite 23-0443 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the Adams Rite 23-0443 and what part of the lock does it replace?
The 23-0443 is a sub cover for Adams Rite mortise-style lock cases, with a 1/2 inch flat profile. It is the plate that closes off the lock case enclosure, not the lock body or the faceplate, so ordering it gets you the cover only. It is sold as a genuine Adams Rite replacement part.
2) Which Adams Rite lock series does the 23-0443 sub cover fit?
It fits Adams Rite 7100, 7110, 7111, 7130 and 7140 Series lock cases. Those five series are the stated compatibility, so if the case you are servicing is from another Adams Rite family, this is the wrong cover.
3) Does the 1/2 inch flat matter, or will any Adams Rite sub cover work on a 7100 case?
The 1/2 inch flat is the identifying dimension of this cover and it has to match the case you are servicing. The 23-0443 is built to the 1/2 inch flat specification; a sub cover with a different profile will not close the case correctly even within the same series. Match the profile before ordering.
4) Do I need to replace the whole lock case, or can I just swap the sub cover?
If the case body and internals are sound and only the cover is damaged or missing, the 23-0443 replaces just the cover. It is made to original specification for a drop-in fit into compatible 7100, 7110, 7111, 7130 and 7140 Series cases, so you keep the existing case, latch and cylinder prep and avoid re-prepping the door.
5) I manage a building with several Adams Rite storefront locks. Can I stock one sub cover for all of them?
One 23-0443 covers five families at once, the 7100, 7110, 7111, 7130 and 7140 Series, so if your openings use those cases with the 1/2 inch flat cover, a single part number services all of them. Check the profile on a sample case first, since cover profile is what separates one Adams Rite sub cover from the next.
6) Is the Adams Rite 23-0443 sub cover a commercial part or does it suit residential doors?
It is a commercial door hardware component. Adams Rite 7100 through 7140 Series cases are commercial mortise lock hardware, so the 23-0443 shows up in office buildings, retail storefronts, schools, healthcare and government facilities rather than in houses.
7) Is the 23-0443 sold as a single part or in a kit with other lock components?
The 23-0443 is one part number sold on its own, the sub cover, in a single configuration. Screws, the lock case, trim and cylinder are separate, so order those items individually if your repair needs them.
