ADAMS RITE 7400 SERIES ELECTRIC STRIKES FOR DEADLATCHES

ADAMS RITE 7400 Designed for use with Adams Rite deadlatches or cylindrical locksets with 1/2" [12.7 mm] to 5/8" [15.9 mm] latchbolt projection.
For use in aluminum, hollow metal, or wood applications.
Open electrically under 25 lbs [11.3 kg] of preload. Preload is pressure exerted on doors by air conditioning systems, warping or misaligned hardware which can disable common electric strikes.

FUNCTION

This non-handed strike features an ultra-compact design and adjustable stainless steel keepers with over 1,500 lbs [680.4 kg] of holding force in fail secure mode. The strike releases electrically with up to 25 lbs of door preload. Single solenoid operates on 12/16/24 VDC power. Remote electrical control of narrow stile aluminum doors equipped with an Adams Rite 4500, 4700 (discontinued), or 4900 Deadlatch or cylindrical lockset with 1/2" [12.7 mm] to 5/8" [15.9 mm] latchbolt projection. Electrical actuation unlocks the keeper, releasing the latchbolt so the door may be opened without operating the latch itself.

Strike Lip: Basic 7400 strike has lip of proper length for 1-3/4" [44.5 mm] thick door that closes flush with jamb edge. Where door thickness or jamb shape differs from this standard relationship, lip extension kits are available. Lip extension kits not available on 7401, 7431

Strike Opening: 5/8" adjustable x 1-7/16" x 1/2" deep [15.9 mm adjustable x 36.5 mm x 12.7 mm deep]. Bolt retaining keeper is stainless steel. Strike accepts bolt of Adams Rite 4500, 4700 (discontinued), or 4900 Deadlatch or cylindrical locksets.

Faceplate: Measures 1-1/4" x 4-7/8" [31.8 mm x 123.8 mm]; flat with square corners

Latchbolt Projection: 7400 - 1-1/4" x 4-7/8" [31.8 mm x 123.8 mm] Flat with raidus corners

Preload: 7400 Series Electric Strikes open electrically under 25 lbs [11.3 kg] of preload. Preload is pressure exerted on doors by air conditioning systems, warping or misaligned hardware which can disable common electric strikes. Using jaw inserts of various sizes, the Ultraline 7400 Series electric strikes are adjustable to compensate for door and frame related preload and security problems.

7430/7431: Large 6-7/8" faceplate is designed to cover strike opening when converting from an MS® pivoted-bolt deadlock to deadlatch.

Standard Package: Individually boxed with mounting screws, mounting tabs, adhesive shims to accommodate jamb or stile extrusion thickness greater or less than nominal 1/8" [3.2 mm], an adjustable keeper shim pack and two plug-in voltage adapters for 12/24 VDC.

Shipping Weight: 2 lbs [0.91 kg].

Adams Rite 7400-628 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What applications are Adams Rite 7400 series electric strikes designed for?
The 7400 series handles medium to heavy-duty commercial applications including office buildings, retail stores, and institutional facilities. The preload capability allows use with doors that experience significant closing pressure or wind loads.
2) How does the fail-safe secure operation work?
Fail-safe secure means the strike remains locked when power is lost, providing security during power outages. When energized, the strike unlocks to allow entry. This is field-selectable, allowing change between fail-safe and fail-secure modes.
3) What door frames are compatible with the 1-1/4" x 4-7/8" faceplate?
This faceplate size fits standard hollow metal frames and some wood frames. The flat design works with frames that don't require radius corners. Verify frame preparation dimensions match the strike template before installation.
4) Does this strike work with both left-hand and right-hand doors?
Yes, the 7400 series is reversible for either hand. The strike body can be flipped during installation to accommodate the door swing direction and latch bolt approach.
5) What finish options are available for the 7400 series?
Standard finishes include satin chrome, dark bronze, and black. The finish should match or complement the door hardware suite. Verify specific finish availability for your project requirements.
6) What are the power requirements for this electric strike?
Most 7400 series strikes operate on 12VDC or 24VDC with low current draw. Check the specific model's voltage requirements and ensure your access control system can provide adequate power and current.
7) Are there building code considerations for fail-safe secure strikes?
Some building codes restrict fail-secure operation on egress doors due to life safety concerns. The field-selectable feature allows compliance adjustment. Consult local building officials and fire marshals for specific requirements.
8) What accessories are typically needed with this strike?
Common accessories include power supplies, request-to-exit devices, and door position switches. The preload feature may require specific keeper adjustments or reinforcement depending on door weight and closing force.
9) How deep does the frame mortise need to be?
Frame mortise depth varies by model but typically requires 1-1/8" to 1-5/8" deep preparation. Always follow the manufacturer's template for exact dimensions. Insufficient depth can prevent proper operation.
10) How is the preload capability adjusted?
Preload adjustment typically involves internal springs or mechanical settings that accommodate door closing pressure. Follow manufacturer instructions for proper adjustment to prevent premature wear or latch bolt interference.
11) What other Adams Rite electric strike series are available?
Adams Rite offers multiple series including the 7100 Light Duty, 7170 UltraLine, and 7400 UltraLine Preload models. Each series targets different door weights and security levels. Browse our Adams Rite collection for comparisons.
12) What door and latch bolt types work with this strike?
The 7400 series accommodates standard 1/2" throw latch bolts from most commercial locksets and exit devices. Compatible with both cylindrical and mortise locks. Verify latch bolt projection and angle match strike specifications.
