1) Will the Adams Rite FPK7400 faceplate kit fit my existing 7400 Series electric strike?
The FPK7400 faceplate kit is made for 7400A body assemblies. If the strike already in your frame is a 7400A body, the kit is the correct replacement faceplate for it; the body stays in the jamb and only the faceplate comes off. Check the body assembly marking before ordering, because a faceplate for the 7400A will not carry over to a different Adams Rite strike family.
2) Can an Adams Rite 7400 electric strike be installed where an MS Deadlock strike used to be?
Yes, on the 7430 and 7431. Those models use a 6-7/8 inch faceplate that covers the MS Deadlock strike prep, so the existing cutout in the jamb is concealed rather than patched. That is the reason to specify the longer faceplate on a deadlock-to-electric-strike conversion instead of filling and refinishing the frame.
3) What latch projection does the Adams Rite 7400 Series strike accept?
The 7400 Series works with latch projections of 1/2 inch to 5/8 inch (12.7 to 15.9 mm). Measure how far the latchbolt on your lock or exit device stands proud of the faceplate when fully extended. Under 1/2 inch it will not seat properly in the keeper, and a longer throw deadbolt-style projection is outside what this strike is built to hold.
4) What finishes does the Adams Rite FPK7400 faceplate kit come in?
Three anodized finishes: 313 dark bronze, 335 black, and 628 clear (aluminum). Those are the standard aluminum storefront finishes, so on a building where the frames were done in one color you can order the faceplate to match the rest of the openings rather than having a mismatched plate on one door.
5) My door centerline sits off from the jamb face, is there a way to make an Adams Rite 7400 strike reach the latch?
Lip extension kits are offered for the 7400 Series to suit different door centerline-to-jamb dimensions. That is the fix when the door sits back far enough that the standard keeper lip does not pick up the latch cleanly. It is ordered separately from the faceplate kit, so if you are rebuilding an opening, specify the lip extension along with the faceplate.
6) Should I replace the whole electric strike or just order the faceplate?
If the 7400A body is still cycling and the damage is to the plate (bent, gouged, wrong finish after a frame repaint, or a prior prep showing), the FPK7400 faceplate kit is the part to order and the body stays in the frame. Replace the complete strike when the solenoid or keeper itself has failed. The 7400 is a modular device, which is why the faceplate is sold on its own as a service part.
