Aiphone ACS-2DR Two-Door Access Control Starter Kit

The ACS-2DR starter kit is a 2-8 door master door controller which includes a master door control board and a two‑door expander board (AC‑2DE). This kit fits into the AC-CA1 enclosure (sold separately), which includes a power supply.

Each AC-2DE has contacts and reader inputs to control two doors. Up to three AC-2DE door control boards can be added to the AC-CA1 enclosure, allowing it to control up to eight doors. For each door, the AC‑2DE provides two dry contact outputs, one wet contact output, and three programmable contact inputs.

This kit can be used on its own or as part of a larger AC Series access control system with additional AC-2DM modules and ACS-2DR panels. The system is managed using the AC Nio management software, with partitioning options available.

Aiphone ACS-2DR – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Aiphone ACS-2DR kit include the enclosure and power supply?
No. The ACS-2DR starter kit is the boards only, a master door control board plus one two-door expander (AC-2DE). The AC-CA1 enclosure, which carries the power supply, is sold separately and has to be ordered with it to make a working panel.
2) How many doors can the Aiphone ACS-2DR access control panel handle?
Two doors out of the box, since the kit ships with one AC-2DE expander and each AC-2DE controls two doors. The AC-CA1 enclosure accepts up to three AC-2DE boards total, so a single panel scales to eight doors. Past that you add more AC-2DM modules and ACS-2DR panels on the same AC Series system.
3) What card readers will work with the Aiphone AC Series ACS-2DR controller?
Reader inputs are Wiegand, two per AC-2DE board (one per door). Any reader with a standard Wiegand output interface wires to it. Aiphone does not restrict you to a particular reader brand here, but the reader must be Wiegand, not OSDP or proprietary serial.
4) Can the ACS-2DR power the electric strikes and maglocks directly, or do I need a separate lock power supply?
Lock power is built in at 12V DC, 500mA per door, so a typical 12V electric strike or low-draw solenoid runs straight off the board. Check the current draw of what you are installing: a maglock or a heavy-duty strike pulling more than 500mA at 12V needs its own supply, switched through the board's dry contact relay instead.
5) Will the Aiphone ACS-2DR meet federal and government procurement requirements?
The ACS-2DR is TAA and NDAA compliant, which is what federal, state, and many public-sector education and healthcare buyers have to confirm before a purchase order clears. It is a commercial-grade product, not residential.
6) What is the difference between the Aiphone ACS-2DR kit and the Codelocks A3 dual door controller?
Both control two doors, but they are built for different systems. The Aiphone ACS-2DR is a panel-based starter kit with a master door control board plus an AC-2DE two-door expander, and it scales to eight doors by adding up to three AC-2DE boards in the AC-CA1 enclosure, all managed centrally through AC Nio software. The Codelocks A3 is a dual standalone door controller with RFID from the A3 Door Controllers series, meaning it is programmed at the controller itself rather than from a central management platform. Choose the ACS-2DR when the site needs credential management, partitioning, and growth past two doors; choose the A3 when two doors is the whole job and you want RFID control without server software.
7) I only need to control two doors and do not want management software. Is there a simpler alternative to the Aiphone ACS-2DR?
Yes. The Codelocks A3 dual standalone door controller with RFID handles two doors as a standalone unit, so there is no central management platform to administer. The Aiphone ACS-2DR is the other approach: it is a 2 to 8 door master controller that mounts in the AC-CA1 enclosure, sold separately, and is administered through AC Nio management software with partitioning options. For a small property with two openings and no plan to expand, the standalone A3 keeps the system self-contained; the ACS-2DR is the path if you expect to add doors or need audit and partition control across a portfolio.
8) For a government or federally funded project, which two-door controller meets procurement compliance requirements?
The Aiphone ACS-2DR two-door access control starter kit is TAA and NDAA compliant, which is the language most government, education, and federally funded procurement specifications require. It is a commercial-duty controller that also carries integrated lock power at 12V DC 500mA per door, two solid state dry contact relays and three dry contact inputs per door, and a dedicated port for battery backup. The Codelocks A3 dual standalone door controller with RFID is an alternative two-door product, but it is a standalone controller rather than a panel-based system. On a job where the submittal calls out TAA or NDAA compliance, specify the ACS-2DR.
9) What inputs and outputs do I get per door on the Aiphone AC-2DE board?
Per door the AC-2DE gives you two dry contact outputs, one wet contact output, and three programmable contact inputs. In practice that covers door position switch, request-to-exit, and a third input of your choosing (tamper, bond sensor, auxiliary), with relays left for the lock and an aux function such as an alarm shunt or door operator trigger.
10) What software runs the Aiphone ACS-2DR access control system?
AC Nio management software runs it. Credentials, schedules, and door behaviour are configured there, and partitioning is supported if you need separate tenants or departments administered independently within one system. Custom scripting and actions are available for non-standard sequences.
11) What happens to the Aiphone ACS-2DR panel if building power drops?
There is a dedicated port for battery backup, so the controller keeps running on batteries through an outage rather than dropping the doors. The battery and the power supply itself live in the AC-CA1 enclosure, which is ordered separately from the board kit.
12) Is a networked panel like the Aiphone ACS-2DR overkill for two doors, or is there a simpler option?
For a two-door opening with no central database, no partitioning, and no plan to grow, a standalone controller does the job with far less wiring and no management software. The Codelocks A3 Dual Standalone Door Controller with RFID handles two doors on its own with RFID credentials built in. Choose the ACS-2DR instead when you want central credential management through AC Nio, per-door programmable inputs, and a path from two doors to eight on the same panel.
13) Does the Codelocks A3 controller read the same credentials as the Aiphone ACS-2DR?
Not by the same interface. The Aiphone ACS-2DR provides two Wiegand reader inputs per AC-2DE board, so it accepts any Wiegand-output reader you specify for the opening and keeps the reader choice open. The Codelocks A3 is a dual standalone controller with integrated RFID. If your specification calls for particular Wiegand readers already on the site, the ACS-2DR is the controller that accommodates them; if RFID credentials at the controller cover the requirement, the A3 is the simpler package.
14) Can I use a Codelocks A3 controller as an expansion board on an Aiphone AC Series panel?
No. The Codelocks A3 is a standalone dual door controller from the A3 Door Controllers series and is not part of the Aiphone AC Series architecture. Expansion on the Aiphone ACS-2DR is done with additional AC-2DE two-door boards, up to three in the AC-CA1 enclosure for a total of eight doors, and the wider system grows with AC-2DM modules and additional ACS-2DR panels under AC Nio. Order Aiphone AC Series boards for expansion; the A3 is a separate system that would be its own standalone installation.
15) Can I troubleshoot an Aiphone AC Series door controller at the panel without a laptop?
Yes. There is a built-in diagnostic LCD on the board, so an integrator standing at the enclosure can read status without connecting a computer. The board also carries short and over-voltage protection on its circuits.
