The GT-1M3 is an audio/video tenant station for the GT Series Multi-Tenant Video Intercom system. It is equipped with door release and talk buttons. In addition, the station has a concierge/security guard call button and an option button to control external devices, such as lights. The unit also has zoom and a light adjustment button for the camera at the entry. When a visitor calls, the tenant station rings and video is displayed on screen. The call is answered by pushing the talk button. The GT-1M3 has the capability of calling the Concierge/Security Guard station(s), turning on an external light while speaking with a visitor at the entrance, and receiving an emergency tone from a pull cord or panic call button. The GT-1M3 has a slim, streamlined design and can be surface mounted. Two units can be used in the same tenant location. Communication between tenant stations is not possible. Communication is hands-free at the entrance station when a tenant answers the call. While speaking with the visitor, the GT-1M3 can communicate with either hands-free (VOX) or push-to-talk (PTT) functionality.

1) Will the Aiphone GT-1M3 tenant station work as a standalone intercom, or does it need the rest of a GT system?
The GT-1M3 is an audio/video tenant station for the GT Series multi-tenant video intercom system, so it only works as part of that system. It answers calls from a GT entrance station and shows the visitor on its 3-1/2 inch LCD. On its own it has nothing to talk to, and tenant-to-tenant communication is not possible even between stations in the same building.
2) How does the GT-1M3 mount in an apartment, and what do I need for a desk install?
Surface mount on a 3-gang box is the wall method for the GT-1M3, which keeps it flush to drywall in a unit entry or kitchen. For a desk or counter, it mounts with the MCW-S/A stand, which is sold separately and has to be added to the order. Nothing about the station is flush/back-box recessed, so plan the 3-gang box on the surface.
3) What wire does an Aiphone GT-1M3 tenant station run on?
Two conductor, solid, non-shielded PE insulated wire. Aiphone specifies #872002 for the audio run and #871802 for video. It is a low voltage station cable, not Cat5, so an existing data drop in the unit will not serve it.
4) Can I put two intercom stations in one apartment with the GT-1M3?
Two units can be used in the same tenant location, so a second GT-1M3 in a bedroom or back of a large unit is supported. What it will not do is let those two stations call each other; communication between tenant stations is not possible, so the second unit is a second answering point for the entrance, not an in-unit interphone.
5) Does the GT-1M3 have a door release button, or do tenants need a separate opener?
Door release is built into the station along with the talk button, so a tenant answers and buzzes the visitor in from the same faceplate. No separate release button or add-on module is needed at the tenant side.
6) Can a tenant call the front desk or guard from the GT-1M3?
Yes, there is a dedicated concierge/security guard call button on the station, so a resident reaches the guard station with one press. That is one of the reasons the GT-1M3 gets specified in staffed buildings over a station with only entrance answering.
7) Can the tenant station switch on an entry light or trigger another device?
A secondary option button on the GT-1M3 closes a normally open contact on the back of the unit, which is what you wire to an external device such as an entry light. The station can turn on that light while the tenant is speaking with the visitor at the entrance. The contact is dry, so the load and its power come from your side of the wiring.
8) Is the GT-1M3 hands-free or do you hold a button to talk?
Either one. While speaking with a visitor, the GT-1M3 works hands-free (VOX) or push-to-talk (simplex), so a property manager can set it whichever way suits the unit. At the entrance station the visitor side is hands-free when the tenant answers.

The 3.5 inch display supports digital pan-tilt-zoom while the tenant is connected to the entrance station, plus light and saturation adjustment for the entry camera. That is what lets a resident check who else is standing off to the side of the panel, or clean up a backlit doorway at night, before releasing the door.

The station receives an emergency tone from a pull cord or panic call button, which is why it shows up in assisted living and accessible multi-family units. The cord or button itself is a separate device you supply and wire to the station.
