Aiphone IE Series Handset Master Station

Capacity is the split. The IE-1AD handles 1 door and 1 room. The IE-2AD takes 2 door stations and up to 3 inside stations, and it adds door monitoring at the master station plus All Call room calling. Both have adjustable chime volume and door release. If you only have one entry and one interior handset, the IE-1AD covers it; anything with a second entrance or a second/third interior station needs the IE-2AD.

Run length depends on gauge: 500 feet on 22AWG, 1,200 feet on 18AWG, door station to master station. The specified cable is Aiphone #822202. On a long parking-lot gate or a back-of-building entrance, step up to 18AWG rather than pulling 22AWG and hoping.

Door release is built in, and the contact is rated 24V AC/DC at 500mA. Any strike or maglock relay you put on it has to fall inside that, so a higher-draw strike needs its own relay and supply rather than being driven straight off the station.

The IE-1AD runs on AC or DC, 12 to 16V AC or 12 to 24V DC. That flexibility means an existing low-voltage transformer at the panel will usually serve it without adding a dedicated DC supply.

Communication is through a handset for privacy, so the conversation with whoever is at the door is not broadcast into the room the way a hands-free open-voice station is. That is the reason to pick a handset station over speakerphone type for a leasing office, a clinic front desk, or any occupied room where an open speaker is a problem.

Yes. The IE-1AD accepts a call extension speaker or an external signaling relay, so a call at the door can be repeated to a shop floor, a back room, or a strobe where the handset itself would not be heard. Chime volume at the station is adjustable, and the door chime is a 4-tone.

Door monitoring at the master station is an IE-2AD feature, so staff can key up an entrance and listen in on their own initiative instead of waiting for a visitor to press the button. The IE-1AD does not carry that function. If monitoring matters to you, specify the IE-2AD even on a single-door opening.

Audio only. The IE stations communicate by handset and, on the IE-2AD, allow door monitoring by listening, not by picture. If you need to see who is at the entrance before releasing the strike, you want a video entry system rather than an IE handset station.

It is a commercial-rated intercom station. Typical placement is a leasing or management office, a receiving desk, or a clinic front counter, wired back to an entrance station on an audio-only run.
