Aiphone IXG-DM7-HID – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Aiphone IXG-DM7-HID work for a multi-tenant apartment building with hundreds of units?
That's what the IXG-DM7-HID is built for. It's the IP video entrance station for Aiphone's IXG Series multi-tenant system, and the 7 inch LCD directory holds up to 9,999 names and numbers, so a visitor scrolls the directory and calls the tenant, or punches in an access entry code. Calls go to the tenant station or the mobile app with 720p HD video of whoever is at the door.
2) Can I put more than one Aiphone IXG-DM7-HID entrance station on the same building?
Yes. Up to 10 entrance stations are supported within a single unit, for example one at the interior lobby door and one at the exterior street door, and the IXG system allows multiple units. So a property with a front entry, a garage entry and a rear service door can run a station at each and all of them ring the same tenant stations and apps.
3) What credentials does the built-in HID reader on the IXG-DM7-HID accept?
The reader built into the entrance station takes HID Prox or iCLASS 26 bit cards. If the building is already carrying 26 bit Prox or iCLASS credentials, residents and staff badge in at the door with the same cards they already have and you don't issue a second credential just for the entry. Card formats outside Prox and iCLASS 26 bit are not what this reader is built around.
4) Does the Aiphone IXG-DM7-HID need its own power supply at the door, or does it run on PoE?
It's PoE compliant, so a single Cat cable from a PoE switch or injector carries both power and the network connection. For a contractor that means one home run to the entry, no low-voltage transformer in the vestibule and no separate power drop to coordinate.
5) Can the IXG entrance station release the door strike and trigger other devices?
Programmable contact inputs and outputs are on board. The outputs are what you wire to an electric strike, mag lock relay or gate operator so a tenant, or a valid card at the reader, releases the door. The inputs take a dry contact from something like a door position switch or a request-to-exit device. Confirm the strike or mag lock voltage and current against the output rating on the station before you land the wires, since the intercom's contacts are a switch, not a power source for the lock.
6) Should I get the HID reader version of the IXG entrance station or the plain one?
Take the reader version when residents or staff need to badge themselves in without calling anyone. The IXG-DM7-HID combines the directory call station and the card reader in one flush unit, so you don't mount a separate reader beside the intercom and you don't run a second cable to it. If every entry is visitor-initiated and access control is handled by another system on the door, the reader is capacity you're paying to install and program.
7) Do I need a recorder or NVR to keep video from the Aiphone door station?
No separate recorder is required for the station's own capture. On-board recording is supported with a microSD card installed in the unit, so entry events are held at the door station itself. The card is not part of the station, so add one to the order at the capacity you want.
8) Is the Aiphone IXG-DM7-HID rated for commercial use or is it a residential intercom?
Commercial. The IXG-DM7-HID is a commercial-grade entrance station, and its function is entrance, meaning it's the outside-the-door unit that visitors use, not a tenant answering station. If you're building out the system, this covers the entry point and you'll order tenant stations, or use the mobile app, for the answering side.
9) Can tenants answer the Aiphone IXG entrance station on their phones instead of a wall station?
Yes. When a visitor calls from the entrance station, the 720p HD camera image is presented on the tenant station or on the app, so a tenant who is out can see and speak to the visitor from their phone. Useful for buildings where you'd rather not put a hardwired station in every unit.
10) Can visitors get in on a code instead of calling a tenant on the Aiphone IXG-DM7-HID?
The 7 inch touchscreen is used both for calling a tenant from the directory and for entering an access entry code. That gives you three ways through the same door: badge the HID reader, key a code, or call up a tenant and have them release it. For a property manager that means the dog walker or the cleaner can be handled without a card and without waking the resident.
11) Is the Aiphone IXG-DM7-HID screen on all the time, or does a visitor have to wake it up?
A motion sensor brings the LCD up as the visitor approaches, so nobody has to find a button in the dark or guess whether the panel is live. Practical difference at a busy lobby: the directory is already showing by the time someone reaches the door.
12) Does a visitor at the Aiphone IXG door station have to pick up a handset to talk?
No handset. Communication at the entrance station is hands-free audio, which is what you want on a public entry, both for durability (nothing on a cord to be torn off) and for a visitor pushing a cart or carrying boxes. The touchscreen handles the calling and the code entry.
