1) What is the difference between the Aiphone MD35M, MD60M and MD120M paging amplifiers?
Output power is the only thing that changes across the three. The MD35M is 35W RMS, the MD60M is 60W, and the MD120M is 120W. Inputs, tone controls, output impedances and chassis size are common to all three, so pick by how many speakers and how much coverage area you need to drive, not by feature set.
2) Will the Aiphone MD series paging amplifier drive 70V speaker lines?
Yes. The MD amplifier has 8 ohm, 25V and 70V output impedance taps, so it works with constant-voltage distributed ceiling and horn speaker runs on 25V or 70V, or with low impedance 8 ohm speakers on a short run. That covers most commercial overhead paging layouts without an added matching transformer at the amp end.
3) Does the Aiphone MD paging amplifier work with an existing Aiphone intercom system?
It can be used with any Aiphone system that has paging ability, as long as the system meets the requirements called out in the amplifier's specifications. If your intercom has no page output, the amplifier will not add that capability to it.
4) What microphone can I connect to the Aiphone MD paging amplifier?
The mic input is 250 ohm balanced and has switchable phantom power, so it takes either a dynamic paging mic or a condenser mic that needs phantom. There are three channel inputs in total (mic, telephone, auxiliary) with independent bass and treble control per input.
5) Can I run background music and music on hold from this amplifier?
Yes. The auxiliary input is 47k ohm with stereo summing and its own gain control, so a stereo music source drops straight in and comes out mono to the speaker line. Separately there is a music-on-hold output at 600 ohm or 10K for VoIP, with its own output level control, to feed a phone system's MOH port.
6) What power does the Aiphone MD paging amplifier need, and can it power an accessory?
It runs on 120V AC, 50-60Hz, so a standard commercial outlet or a rack power strip. There is also a 12V accessory power output on the unit for feeding a small peripheral such as a page control device.
7) Is this paging amplifier good enough for background music or only for voice announcements?
Spec is better than voice-only: frequency response is 20Hz to 20kHz within 2dB and distortion is under 0.5% THD. That is wide enough for music playback over a distributed speaker system, not just intelligible speech.
