Aiphone PD-1 - Paging Adaptor for TD-H/B Series

The PD-1 is the bridge between an Aiphone TD-H handset system and a building's overhead PA amplifier. Without it, a TD-H master can talk to stations on its own bus but has no path into ceiling or horn speakers. Add the PD-1 and a user picks up a TD-H handset and pages the overhead system, single zone or multiple zones. It also takes a background music source, and that music mutes on its own when someone keys a page, so you are not mixing announcement over music. It's a commercial-duty accessory, not a residential add-on.

Two different runs, and they are not the same cable. Adaptor to amplifier is 2-conductor with an overall shield, Aiphone #822202. Adaptor to master station is 3-conductor with an overall shield, Aiphone #822203. Shielded is specified on both legs, which matters because this is low-level audio, the music input runs at 0.3V and the amp feed at 0.12V to 0.5V, so unshielded cable in a ceiling next to ballasts or line voltage will pick up hum. Pull both runs before the walls close, and plan the paths back to the head end separately.

The PD-1 feeds an amplifier's AUX or PHONO input, expecting 100K to 500K ohms impedance at a 0.12V to 0.5V signal level. Its own output is rated 5K ohms, 1.5V maximum. If your amp has a line-level AUX or PHONO input in that impedance range, the PD-1 drives it directly. What it is not is a speaker-level or 70V device, so it does not tie into a 70V speaker line, it feeds the amplifier that drives the line. Check the back of the amp for an unused AUX or PHONO jack before you order.

The PD-1 is built for the Aiphone TD-H and TD-B series handset intercom systems, and the adaptor-to-master-station wiring spec assumes a TD-H master on the other end. If you're running a different Aiphone platform, this is not the paging interface for it, each family has its own. Anyone extending an existing TD-H installation with overhead paging is looking at the right part.

Single or multi-zone paging are both supported by the PD-1 adaptor. So a facility that wants the warehouse paged without waking the front offices can do it, rather than being stuck with all-call. Zone splitting itself happens at the amplifier and speaker wiring, the PD-1 provides the paging path from the TD-H handset into that system.

Yes, and that's part of why the PD-1 exists. It has a dedicated music input rated 17K ohms, 0.3V at 1KHz for full output, and there's a tuner output with a 100mV to 1.2V audio range at 10K ohms or less. Music plays through the overhead speakers normally and mutes automatically the moment someone pages from a TD-H handset, then returns. No one has to reach for a source switch. Feed it from a tuner, streaming player, or whatever line-level source the building already has.

Talkback gain on the PD-1 is 40dB at 1KHz with volume at maximum, and environmental noise is held to less than 80dB on the phono path. The real loudness on the floor is set by the amplifier and speakers you feed, the PD-1 is the signal source. In a high-noise space, size the amplifier and horn count for the room, the adaptor will deliver a clean line-level signal into it as long as the shielded cable spec is followed.
