Aiphone DE-UR – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does the Aiphone DE-UR adaptor actually do in a TD-H/B intercom system?
The DE-UR sits between an Aiphone TD-H or TD-B door station and the master station. It adds door release capability and carries the call tone modulating circuits, which run on a 2-1/2 second timer, so pressing the call button gives a timed tone rather than a continuous one.
2) What kind of electric strike or door release can I switch with the DE-UR adaptor?
The door release contact on the DE-UR is rated 30V AC/DC at 1A. Any strike or maglock relay drawing within that at 30 volts or less can be driven directly. Anything heavier, or line voltage, needs an intermediate relay and its own power supply.
3) How far can the door station be from the DE-UR adaptor?
Run length from door station to adaptor is 500 feet on 22 AWG and 1,200 feet on 18 AWG. Heavier wire buys you the distance, so on a long yard or parking-structure run step up to 18 AWG rather than pushing 22 to its limit.
4) What wire do I need to run for an Aiphone DE-UR installation?
Two different cables. Door station to adaptor is 2-conductor with overall shield, Aiphone #822202. Adaptor to master station is 6-conductor with overall shield, Aiphone #822206. The shield matters here, so don't substitute unshielded station wire.
5) How much current does the DE-UR draw from the system power supply?
Consumption is 120mA. Add that to the draw of the stations already on the supply when you size or verify the power source, particularly if you are adding adaptors to an existing TD-H system that was built out to its limit.
6) Do I need one DE-UR per door, or one for the whole intercom system?
The DE-UR pairs with a door station: the wiring is specified as door station to adaptor on 2-conductor shielded, then adaptor to master station on 6-conductor shielded. Each entry you want to release from the master needs its own adaptor in that chain.
7) Is the Aiphone DE-UR meant for commercial buildings or houses?
It is a commercial-rated accessory, built for the TD-H series intercom used in offices, multi-family entries and institutional buildings. It is not a standalone doorbell kit, it is a component added to an existing TD-H or TD-B system.
