1) What comes in the Alarm Controls JN-1 jack nut tool kit?
The JN-1 kit ships with the jack nut installation tool, a 25/64 inch drill bit, a 5M mandrel already installed in the tool, spare 3M, 4M and 6M mandrels (one each), 50 of the 5M jack nuts, 50 of the 5M x .75 inch flat head Phillips machine screws, and a metal tool box that holds everything.
2) What drill bit size do I need for Alarm Controls 5M jack nuts?
25/64 inch, and that bit is supplied in the JN-1 kit so you are not hunting for one on site. Drill the hole to 25/64, set the jack nut with the tool using the 5M mandrel, and fasten with the 5M x .75 inch flat head Phillips screws.
3) Should I order the JN-1 kit or the JN-50 pack of jack nuts?
Two different things. JN-1 is the complete tool kit: installation tool, mandrels, drill bit, box, plus 50 jack nuts and 50 screws. JN-50 is just a pack of 50 jack nuts, sold separately for refilling once you already own the tool. First install crew buys JN-1 once; after that you reorder JN-50.
4) Why would I use jack nuts to mount a magnetic lock instead of screwing into the frame?
Jack nuts give you a machine-screw thread in hollow metal frames and door headers where there is no solid material to hold a wood or sheet metal screw. You drill the header, set the jack nut, and the maglock or armature bolts to a real thread. Alarm Controls lists the JN hardware as an accessory for its 600 and 1200 Series magnetic locks, which are commercial door hardware.
5) Does the JN-1 jack nut kit handle sizes other than 5M?
The tool covers four mandrel sizes. It arrives with the 5M mandrel fitted and includes one each of the 3M, 4M and 6M mandrels, so you can swap the mandrel to set 3M, 4M or 6M jack nuts as the job calls for. Only the 5M jack nuts and 5M x .75 inch screws are supplied in quantity with the kit.
6) Is the Alarm Controls JN-1 a fastener kit or does it include the magnetic lock?
Fasteners only. The JN-1 is an installation tool and hardware kit used to mount Alarm Controls 600 and 1200 Series maglocks; the lock, armature and power supply are separate orders.
