1) What is the difference between the latching and momentary versions of the Alarm Controls SLP station?
It comes down to what happens when you let go of the button. The latching SLP uses illuminated DPDT switches that alternate between open (disconnected) and closed (connected) each time they are pressed, so the contact state holds after you release, which is what you want to secure or unsecure a lock and leave it that way. The momentary version makes the contact only while the button is held, which is the normal choice for a simple release, or door open, at a reception desk or nurse station. Both are ordered on the same series, so pick the switch type as an option.
2) How many push buttons can I get on an Alarm Controls SLP control station, and what size box do I need?
One through eight buttons, with a matching LED for each. The gang size follows the button count: 1 or 2 buttons on a single gang plate, 3 or 4 on a double gang, 5 or 6 on a three gang, 7 or 8 on a four gang. Order the suffix as XL for that many latching illuminated buttons or XM for that many momentary buttons, where X is the number 1 through 8. So a four button momentary station is a 4M configuration on a double gang plate.
3) How deep does the wall box need to be for an SLP station?
Switch depth behind the plate is 1-1/2 inches, so the box has to give you at least that much clear depth plus room for the wiring. On retrofits into shallow boxes in older masonry or on mullions, measure before you order, because a standard shallow box will not take it.
4) Will the SLP station switch my maglock directly, or do I need a relay?
The DPDT switch contacts are rated 3A at 35 VDC or 120 VAC, so a typical 12 or 24 VDC maglock drawing well under 3 amps can be switched directly through the station. Anything above that rating, or a bank of several locks on one button, needs a relay or a power supply input instead. The second pole of the DPDT is what lets you switch the lock and signal an access control panel or alarm at the same time.
5) Can one SLP station control and monitor several doors from a single point?
That is what the multi button configurations are for. Each button gets its own 1/2 inch red LED status indicator, and each station is built to release or secure and monitor one or more electrified locks. With up to eight button and LED pairs on a four gang plate, a guard desk or front office can run and watch eight separate openings from one plate. Buy one button per opening you need to control.
6) What voltage do the LED indicators on the Alarm Controls SLP run on?
The LEDs operate on 12 or 24 VDC or VAC, so they drop straight onto the same low voltage supply already feeding the lock hardware. The switch and the LED are each terminated with colored leads, so you land them on separate circuits: the indicator can be driven from a door position switch or lock status output rather than from the button itself.
7) Can I get custom legends or a different LED color on the Alarm Controls SLP?
Yes. Custom legends, plus green and yellow LEDs in place of the standard red, are available as custom parts.
