1) What does "keyed alike master keyed" mean on the American Lock A1267KAMK, and is that what I want for a facility?
On the A1267KAMK all the padlocks on the order are cut to the same change key, and they also operate under a master key. So one key opens every lock in the group for the crew using them, while the master opens them for supervisors or maintenance. If you instead want each lock on its own key under a common master, that is the A1267MK. For no master key at all, the A1267KA is keyed alike and the A1267KD is keyed different.
2) Will the American Lock A1267 padlock shackle fit through my hasp? What are the shackle dimensions?
The shackle is 5/16 inch in diameter with a 3/4 inch clearance between the legs and a 3 inch vertical shackle length, so the hasp eye needs to pass a 5/16 inch rod and the staple has to be narrow enough to sit inside 3/4 inch. The 3 inch shackle gives plenty of reach for chain-link gate posts, tool cribs and locker hasps.
3) Can these padlocks be rekeyed later, or do I have to replace them?
Rekeyable. The A1267 carries a 6-pin APTC14 cylinder that is pick resistant and can be recombinated, with tens of thousands of key changes available, so a locksmith can rekey the lock in place when a key goes missing or a tenant turns over. If you want blanks to bit yourself, order the A1267KZ (zero-bitted) or A1267UN (uncombinated) instead of the keyed-alike version.
4) Do I need to supply a key code when ordering keyed-alike master keyed padlocks?
There is a key code field on the order for the A1267KAMK. If you are adding locks to an existing American Lock master key system, give the code stamped on your current keys or locks so the new padlocks are cut to the same system. 6) Our facility standardizes on interchangeable core - can the A1267KAMK be used, or do we need a different padlock?
The A1267KAMK is rekeyable through a 6-pin APTC14 cylinder rather than a removable core, so it is rekeyed by repinning, not by swapping a core. If your master key system is built on removable cores, the Sargent 60-858-2 is a removable core padlock with a 2 inch stainless steel shackle. Sargent also lists the 758 as key retaining in US4 satin brass and the 858 as non-key retaining with a stainless steel shackle, which is the choice that decides whether the key can be withdrawn while the lock is open.
7) Can I mix the A1267KAMK with Sargent or Medeco padlocks on the same master key system?
No. The A1267KAMK uses American Lock's 6-pin APTC14 rekeyable cylinder, and its keyed alike master keyed variants are bitted to that platform. Sargent's 82-856 is built on the KESO platform and the Medeco 5260 uses M3 key technology, which are separate keyways and separate systems.
