1) What does the KA in American Lock A1367KA mean, and will all the locks I order open with the same key?
KA means keyed alike: every A1367KA on an order keys to the same cut, so one key opens the whole group. That is what a property manager or MRO buyer wants when crews carry one key for many gates or lockers. If you need each lock on its own key, the A1367 (A1367KD) is the keyed different version, A1367MK is keyed different master keyed, and A1367KAMK is keyed alike under a master key. There is also a key code field on the order so you can match an existing keyed alike group you already run.
2) Will a 3/8 inch shackle fit through my hasp or chain link gate latch?
The shackle on the A1367KA is 3/8 inch diameter with 3/4 inch clearance between the legs and 3 inch shackle length, so the hole in your hasp has to be at least 3/8 inch and the staple or latch loop can be no wider than 3/4 inch across for the shackle to close around it. The tall 3 inch shackle is what lets it reach through thicker gate hardware and chain that a short-shackle padlock will not clear.
3) Can a locksmith rekey the American Lock A1367 padlock to our building keyway?

The A1367KA is a rekeyable pin-tumbler aluminum padlock with a 2 inch body, so it is keyed on its own cylinder rather than a small format interchangeable core. If your site standardizes on removable core keying, the Sargent 60-858-2 removable core padlock with a 2 inch stainless steel shackle lets the same core used elsewhere in the building drop into the padlock, so rotating a core rotates the padlock along with the doors.
6) Is an ABUS 72/30 a substitute for the American Lock A1367KA on a self-storage or outdoor gate application?
They are not equivalent in size. The A1367KA has a 2 inch wide aluminum body with a 3/8 inch diameter, 3 inch long boron shackle. The ABUS 72/30 is an anodized aluminum safety padlock with a 1-1/4 inch body width and a 3/16 inch shackle diameter, a much lighter section built for lockout/tagout style use where the lock marks an isolation point rather than resists attack. If the hasp is drilled for a 3/8 inch shackle, the 72/30 will simply be loose in it.
7) For a coastal or wash-down installation, is the A1367KA the right choice or is there a better body material?
The A1367KA uses a solid aluminum body with a black anodized finish and a boron alloy shackle, which is the reason it is specified for harsh outdoor and manufacturing environments. If the application is marine or constantly wet, the Medeco 521 G8R is a weather-tight padlock with a solid stainless steel body, and the ABUS T84MB/30 Nautic uses a black sleeve over the body with a 13/64 inch shackle diameter and 1 17/64 inch body width for small marine hardware. The Medeco 521 G8R is supplied less pop-out cylinder, so the cylinder is ordered separately.
8) Is there an equivalent to the A1367KA if I need audit trail and access scheduling rather than a mechanical key?
No mechanical padlock provides that. The A1367KA is a mechanical 6-pin rekeyable cylinder padlock. If the site needs electronic credentialing at the padlock, the Medeco 54515G XT is an electronic indoor/outdoor padlock, non-key retaining, with a 5/16 inch shackle diameter and cylinder included. Note the 5/16 inch shackle is a smaller section than the 3/8 inch shackle on the A1367KA, so confirm the hasp opening before swapping.
9) Can a Schlage KS23D padlock be keyed to match the American Lock A1367KA?
No. The A1367KA uses American Lock's rekeyable 6-pin APTC14 cylinder, while the Schlage KS23D/KS23F is a 20 Series brass padlock with a 5/16 inch diameter shackle on the Schlage keyway. They are different cylinder platforms, so one cannot be keyed alike to the other. The difference is shackle height: the A1367 carries the 3 inch shackle, which is the tall one for reaching through chain, thick hasps, and gate hardware.
